Job summary

Farnsworth Group, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer - HVAC/Building Systems to join our team in Phoenix. You’ll handle multi-project responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities, while mentoring staff and engaging clients.

You will lead design efforts from schematic through construction, perform code research, and coordinate with other disciplines to deliver high-quality projects on time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering is required.
• 7+ years of professional HVAC and plumbing design experience for buildings.
• A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
• Prior management or mentoring of staff is required.
• Design experience for medium/large commercial and institutional facilities.
• Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar tools.
• Strong teamwork and leadership to lead projects end-to-end.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare HVAC, plumbing, controls, and specialty piping drawings and specifications.
• Perform construction administration including submittal reviews and revisions.
• Develop preliminary schematics through final designs with calculations and layouts.
• Conduct code research and apply standards to projects.
• Lead projects and coordinate with disciplines, clients, and contractors.
• Mentor and coordinate production staff.
• Help manage design budgets and schedules while ensuring quality.
• Review HVAC and plumbing design work for quality.

Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer - HVAC/Building Systems to join our team. In this role, you will assume multi-project responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. Additional responsibilities will be in specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. It is client-facing, entrepreneurial and reports to a senior engineering manager or Principal, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities to help you grow.

What You’ll Do:

• Prepare accurate HVAC, plumbing, controls, and specialty piping system construction drawings, including specifications.
• Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction.
• Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
• Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application.
• Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff.
• Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results.
• Perform quality control reviews of HVAC and plumbing design work done by others.
• Assist in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients.
• Other duties, as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
• 7+ years of professional experience in HVAC and plumbing design for buildings.
• A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
• Prior management or mentoring of staff required.
• Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities
• Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar
• Strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to fully lead projects from start to finish.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously.
• Ability to travel.
