Job summary

Actalent in Somerset, NJ seeks a Project Lead for multi-phase building design projects. You will guide feasibility, conceptual and basis of design reports, and detailed design, coordinating with clients and a design team. The role requires senior electrical engineering experience, CAD proficiency, and strong knowledge of codes and medium voltage systems.

The position is hybrid, permanent, with a pay range of $130,000 to $180,000 per year, plus comprehensive health, retirement, and PTO benefits.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering/design experience in building design.
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Expertise in CAD programs (AutoCAD/Revit) and electrical design tools.
• Thorough knowledge of electrical system design and codes.
• Experience with medium voltage, hazardous classified areas, and telecom systems.
• 4 years of experience overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.
• PE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Project Lead on all project phases including feasibility, risk assessment, basis of design, and detailed design.
• Break projects into tasks, define scope, budget, and staffing with the PM.
• Prepare design scopes, studies, and schematic designs for new systems.
• Review operation of existing systems and coordinate with code officials.
• Assign and review work of the design team and monitor progress.
• Communicate scope changes to clients and PM; review contractor payments.
• Coordinate project completion with clients and external design professionals.
• Perform engineering calculations for sizing and protection and prepare budgets.
• Contribute to design standards and mentor staff.

Job Description

• Perform the role of Project Lead on projects for all phases of work, including but not limited to Feasibility Reports, Building Assessments, Concept and Basis of Design Reports, and Detailed Design and Documentation.
• Assess the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks, and work with a Project Manager to determine the scope of work, budget, and staffing.
• Write the scope of work for design, based on preliminary review and meetings with the client.
• Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems.
• Review and evaluate the operation of existing systems.
• Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.
• Assign and review the work of the project design team.
• Check progress of work and produce markups to be incorporated in drawings.
• Communicate with clients and alert the Project Manager to changes of scope or additional services.
• Review contractor applications for payment. Has a thorough understanding of the construction process.
• Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients, as well as other design professionals.
• Make calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for design, such as service size calculations, short circuit calculations, arc flash studies, power system load studies, and Neher-McGrath calculations for sizing buried conduits.
• Prepare or review construction budgets, based on experience and scope of project.
• Promote use of, and participate in the development of, company design and production standards.
• Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as a resource for design questions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Engineering/design experience in the building design industry (for example: power distribution, standby power systems, life safety systems, etc.).
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.
• Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD/Revit).
• Thorough knowledge of Electrical system design and applicable codes.
• Expertise in performing electrical engineering calculations (SKM, EasyPower, AmpCALC, etc.).
• Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems.
• 4 years of experience overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.
• PE preferred

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $180000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
