Forge Atomics is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to own the highest-impact electrical systems for Ember, our 25 MWe nuclear reactor. You will design, validate, and deploy hardware that monitors, controls, and harnesses reactor power while balancing cost and safety.

You will lead architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across teams to deliver robust, scalable electrical solutions in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline
• 5+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, and building electrical hardware

Responsibilities

• Rapidly design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics and electrical systems for our reactor
• Drive electrical architecture, specification, and communication protocols
• Collaborate with peers from different systems to balance cost, efficiency, and deployment logistics
• Run make vs. buy trades for the critical electrical systems of the reactor, including instrumentation and sensing systems and actuators such as control rod drive mechanisms
• Design plant electrical systems to meet regulatory requirements and safety standards while still achieving radical cost and schedule reductions
• Apply first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to assess and iterate on your designs rapidly
• Support the assembly of your hardware in the factory, witness your designs being brought to life daily, and watch them power an abundant, clean future
• Provide training and mentorship to junior electrical engineers

Sr. Electrical Engineer

As an electrical engineer at Forge, you'll be responsible for the electrical systems that monitor, control, and harness the power of Ember, our 25 MWe nuclear reactor. Electrical engineers at Forge serve as hardware experts across a tremendous range of power levels - from the milliwatt level output of flux sensors in the core to the megawatt level output of the turbine system. If designing actuators to manipulate control rods in a nuclear reactor core, building the sensing and instrumentation suite to measure neutron flux, and monitoring and controlling temperatures and pressures in a grid-scale steam turbine get you fired up, this is the right role for you. Sr. Electrical Engineers will own the highest-impact electrical systems while setting the technical bar for the electrical engineering team.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline

• 5+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, and building electrical hardware

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for problem solving, and desire to enable abundant clean energy

• 5+ years of experience designing and analyzing electrical systems via professional work experience, project/research-based student experience, or a combination of both

• Experience acting as a technical lead — scoping work, reviewing designs and processes, and guiding other engineers to successful outcomes

• Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information

• Experience working at a nimble engineering organization or in a highly technical position that required a scrappy, entrepreneurial manner to accomplish tasks with tight time or budget constraints

• Demonstrated excellence designing, validating, and deploying complex electrical systems

• Experience with signal conditioning interfaces for sensors such as pressure transducers, thermocouples. Experience with neutron flux sensors and gamma flux sensors preferred.

• Experience with electromechanical systems, actuators, and motors

• Experience designing high reliability electrical harnessing

• Experience with high-power generators, transformers, and grid interconnect

Additional Requirements

• Position will be based in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County and will require relocation if not already local. The position will be full-time in the office.

• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary

• Ability to travel to reactor construction sites in other states as necessary

Compensation and Benefits

Pay range:

• Senior: $140,000.00 - $190,000.00/per year + equity

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at Forge.
