Job summary

The Nuclear Company in the United States is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to serve as technical lead for design, analysis, and maintenance of electrical systems for nuclear power plants or advanced reactor projects. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, apply IEEE and other standards, and support various projects including operating plants and new builds.

Requirements include a BS in Electrical Engineering, EIT, 8+ years, ETAP/SKM, AutoCAD/SolidWorks/ANSYS, and ability to obtain

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) license.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • Power industry experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NQA-1, NEI standards.
  • Proficiency in ETAP or SKM software for electrical modeling, along with proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS.
  • Must be capable of obtaining security clearance for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of electrical components and systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations (e.g., short circuit, arc flash, relay settings), drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare or review engineering modification packages
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff
  • Diagnose electrical equipment failures, support root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Review vendor documentation and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Interface with engineers in other disciplines such as civil/structural, mechanical, and instrumentation and controls (I&C).
  • Support the implementation of quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Recommend equipment, develop new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.

About the role

The Staff Electrical Engineer will be a technical lead responsible for designing, analyzing, and maintaining complex electrical systems and components for nuclear power plants (operating or a new build) or advanced reactor projects. They will work with a multi-discipline team of engineers in the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems and components using engineering software, including support to lead engineers. They apply advanced engineering principles and engineering codes & standards, such as IEEE, to develop solutions that meet strict safety, regulatory, and quality standards. They will resolve technical issues for operating nuclear power plants, new plants, and other nuclear and non-nuclear projects. This role supports Corporate initiatives as well as ongoing construction projects.

Experience

Preferred Experience
  • Professional Engineer license is a plus.
  • Power industry (e.g., nuclear power plant or nuclear construction) experience is a plus
  • Previous causal analysis experience is a plus
  • AI/ML-Assisted Engineering Analysis: Experience leveraging AI/ML tools to accelerate engineering calculations (e.g., short circuit, arc flash, load flow) or to identify patterns in equipment performance data for predictive maintenance and failure analysis

Estimated Starting Salary Range

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
