Job summary

Leggett & Platt is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to bolster EHS across four Western Michigan facilities. You will drive regulatory compliance, improve safety performance, and support environmental initiatives while fostering a proactive safety culture.

The role requires leadership, cross-site collaboration, and travel between plants. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of manufacturing EHS experience and strong knowledge

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• OSHA/MIOSHA knowledge and environmental compliance familiarity.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
• Identify hazards and implement risk-reduction solutions.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly between WM facilities.

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist within our Environmental Health & Safety team to help support our Work Furniture business. In our Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in upholstered furniture, including recliner mechanisms, seating support systems, and sofa sleeper units. With a global footprint that includes international manufacturing, product development, distribution, and sales, we are strategically positioned to support upholstered furniture manufacturers around the world.

Our Work Furniture business produces task and finished components, as well as select lines of private label finished seating. As a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, you will have the opportunity to support and strengthen EHS activities across four facilities in Western Michigan. To Be Successful In This Role, You\'ll Need

• Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA requirements and environmental compliance regulations
• Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action management
• Ability to identify workplace hazards and implement practical risk-reduction solutions
• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly between facilities in Western Michigan

Things We Consider a Plus

• Experience supporting EHS programs across multiple manufacturing sites
• Knowledge of ergonomics, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, and hazardous energy control programs
• Experience with EHS management systems such as Enablon, Benchmark Gensuite, or similar platforms
• Strong analytical and continuous improvement mindset
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Copilot
• Bilingual communication skills
