Job summary

Odyssey Logistics is seeking a Sr. Dispatcher to coordinate local and regional freight, ensuring safe, on-time transportation and top-notch customer service. You will work with drivers, warehouses, and terminals to optimize operations and maintain compliance across regulations.

This onsite role requires 2+ years of dispatching experience, strong FMCSA knowledge, and proficiency with transportation platforms. Excellent communication and data-entry skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of dispatching experience in trucking, drayage, or intermodal transportation.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and transportation compliance.
  • Experience coordinating freight movement between warehouses, rail terminals, ports, and customers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using transportation platforms such as eModal, UIIA, chassis provider websites, terminal websites, and ocean carrier portals preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail with accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate pickup and delivery of freight between customers, warehouses, marine terminals, rail terminals, and intermodal facilities.
  • Monitor shipment status, appointments, container availability, and dispatch schedules for timely freight movement.
  • Communicate shipment updates, delays, scheduling changes, and challenges with customers and internal teams.
  • Prepare and distribute daily dispatch reports and coordinate priorities with warehousing, transportation, customs brokerage, and operations teams.
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) to ensure FMCSA compliance and maintain accurate documentation.

The Role

Summary / Primary Role

The Sr. Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and directing the pickup and delivery of local and regional freight while ensuring efficient transportation operations and exceptional customer service. This role works closely with drivers, independent contractors, warehouses, customers, marine terminals, and internal departments to ensure shipments move safely, accurately, and on schedule while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.

The ideal candidate has strong dispatching experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple shipments while ensuring regulatory compliance and outstanding service.

Dispatch Operations
  • Coordinate the pickup and delivery of freight between customers, warehouses, marine terminals, rail terminals, and intermodal facilities.
  • Monitor shipment status, appointments, container availability, and dispatch schedules to ensure timely freight movement.
Customer & Operational Communication
  • Communicate shipment updates, delays, scheduling changes, and transportation challenges with customers and internal departments.
  • Prepare and distribute daily dispatch reports while coordinating priorities with warehousing, transportation, customs brokerage, and operations teams.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Monitor driver Hours of Service (HOS) to ensure FMCSA compliance.
  • Maintain accurate shipment documentation, update transportation systems, obtain required permits, and ensure all records are completed accurately and confidentially.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of dispatching experience in a trucking, drayage, or intermodal transportation environment.

Base Pay Range: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
