Job Description

The Senior Director, Practice Operations is responsible for ensuring that operational decisions, priorities, and services are aligned with the overall ambulatory strategy, service line goals and objectives. This position provides oversight for the ambulatory senior managers and directors and the implementation of priorities, process improvement, initiatives, finance, budget control, access, capital planning/investment, and care transformation. In collaboration with the VP Administrator, the Senior Director Practice Operations provides strategic direction in the execution of strategy ensuring best practices and supporting change management with positive influence. This position engages stakeholders to build strategic partnerships, agreements, and collaboration to remove organizational and operational barriers.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the execution of strategy in the ambulatory sites of care ensuring aligned priorities with service lines, process improvement, and care transformation.
  • Partners closely with the VP Administrator in process improvement, finance, budget control, capital planning, investment, and expenses providing subject matter expertise when creating priorities and goals.
  • Reviews and benchmarks practice operations with service lines within the system and external medical groups/healthcare organizations to determine practice variance and improvement opportunities. Creates aligned policies and procedures to achieve improved results.
  • Contributes to the identification and prioritization of new business opportunities including the development of business plans for new or expanded services in collaboration with the VP Administrator.
  • Closely monitors the development and implementation of strategies to reduce the cost of practice operations and its impact on clinical outcomes and/or patient satisfaction. Formulates and oversees financial planning, policies, and practices in collaboration with the VP Administrator. Demonstrates financial competency by effectively preparing, planning, and executing budgetary standards.
  • Provides oversight of special projects in targeted priority areas that include ambulatory practice, safety culture, quality, and growth.
  • Monitors statistical and other pertinent data to determine and justify the need for human, material, and environmental resources to deliver high‑quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates sound operational forecasting, budget planning, and effective/appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Represents Inova and actively participates in professional development organizations and national groups. Shares, presents, discusses, and incorporates learnings and best practices. Ex. AMGA, MGMA, ACHE.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with designated external and internal stakeholders.
  • 3 years of progressive management/leadership experience
  • 10 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or supporting outpatient/ambulatory pediatric practices or clinics, preferably within a complex healthcare system.
  • Experience with practice acquisition, integration, and/or expansion, including operational and organizational integration.
  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or a related field.

ACHE certification or Fellow status (FACHE) preferred.
