Position Title: Senior Director of Nursing Services Position Code: DirNsgSvcs-8035

Department: Nursing Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize, plan, direct, and evaluate nursing functions and activities across assigned clinical areas in alignment with organizational and nursing strategic goals.
  • Assess nursing infrastructure and workflows, identifying opportunities to improve patient outcomes, throughput, and satisfaction.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient care delivery and care transitions.
  • Advance professional nursing practice by supporting evidence-based standards, nursing-sensitive indicators, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Partner with nursing and quality leaders to monitor outcomes, identify trends, and implement improvement strategies.
  • Support the development and sustainability of education, competency, and professional practice models for nursing staff.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Directors, Managers, and other nursing leaders.
  • Support recruitment, retention, engagement, and succession planning across nursing leadership and frontline teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and professional growth.
  • Participate in performance management, including goal setting, evaluations, and corrective action as needed.
  • Collaborate with nursing and finance leaders to manage budgets, staffing models, and resource utilization.
  • Support productivity targets and staffing effectiveness while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Assist in monitoring reports and operational metrics relevant to nursing performance and compliance.
  • Ensure nursing operations comply with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Support survey readiness and corrective action planning as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of leadership and operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.
Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree while currently working on Master’s degree with a defined graduation date.

Experience: Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including director-level responsibility.

Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

License: Current unrestricted Arizona RN license or compact RN license with the expectation of obtaining an Arizona RN license within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage change, and drive performance improvement.
  • Thorough understanding of nursing practice standards, patient safety principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and collaboration; strong experience with Windows-based computer applications to include but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Preferences

Education: Master’s of Science in Nursing with certification i.e. Certification in Executive Nurse Practice (CENP).

Experience:

  • Experience in acute care or multi-service hospital environments.
  • Formal leadership training or certification.

Exposure Category II: Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Work Requirements
  • Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Ability to sit for 3-5 hours per day.
  • Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day.
  • Ability to walk for 3-5 hours day.
