Senior Director, Finance - Human Resources Outsourcing HRO - Comprehensive Services

In this critical role, the Senior Director of Finance will provide financial and strategic decision support to the business to ensure achievement of short and long term financial goals. The role supports the Human Resources Outsourcing HRO – Comprehensive Services organization, which generates over $1B in annual revenue. Partnering with management, the Senior Director will facilitate the understanding of key business dynamics, including productivity analysis, margin improvement, pricing, and business analysis such as client retention, loss reporting, and quality metrics. Driving financial best practices, the Senior Director will optimize financial opportunities related to revenue enhancement and expense management throughout the organization. The Senior Director also acts as a support function for the operating plan, forecast process, and management reporting/financial close activities. Other areas of focus include FP&A and P&L management; the role requires knowledge of and/or coordination with experts in Tax, Treasury, and Legal.

Responsibilities
  • Business Partnering: Partners with key stakeholders and business partners to align on business priorities and drive effective solutions/execution. Constructively communicates compelling arguments based on facts and data and obtains necessary buy‑in to deliver on business objectives. Partners with senior/general management in setting direction and managing key priorities such as client profitability and retention, competitive position, expense management, product enhancements and other business opportunities. Acts as the finance business partner to functional organizations such as Sales, Implementation and Marketing; supports pricing analytics and decision‑making as needed.
  • Business Analysis: Uses deep understanding of objectives, issues and root causes and provides insightful, fact‑based data analysis to help solve complex problems. Provides financial and strategic decision support to senior management to ensure achievement of short and long term financial goals. Assists management in understanding the business dynamics, which includes productivity, relationships, models, trends, leading indicators and business statistics.
  • Strategic Planning and Initiatives: Partners with business leadership to develop strategies and initiatives to drive growth and margin improvements. Executes on strategic initiatives such as M&A support, product launches, market entry, and process improvement efforts. Develops business cases and recommends financial strategies to ensure business growth/market presence and margin improvement. Maintains an awareness of general economic, competitive, business and financial conditions and communicates impact on business operations to key stakeholders.
  • Operating Planning and Forecasting: Creates an annual operating plan that is aligned to the strategic plan and performs forecasting to provide visibility into business results to enable business decisions. Provides consultative input or business analyses to support operating planning and forecasting.
  • Financial Operational Policy: Establishes and maintains consistent financial operational policies and procedures to govern related practices. Drives identification of best practices related to financial operations policies and procedures; recommends modifications as needed. Ensures continued compliance with all policies and practices such as Loss Reporting/Technical Lost Business.
  • Talent Development and Management: Deliberately builds capability for short and long term. Sets direction, goals and expectations about performance, holds associates accountable for development and provides appropriate feedback. Coaches and develops associates, builds a diverse team and encourages innovative thinking to identify broad growth opportunities. Delegates responsibilities to associates, both to deliver on commitments and to continuously build team members’ capabilities.
  • Management Reporting and Financial Close Activities: Produces and distributes recurring and ad‑hoc management reports. Responsible for financial reporting accuracy; partners with shared services organizations and ensures adequate control environment to mitigate financial and business risks in collaboration with process owners. Leverages recurring and ad‑hoc management reporting to identify trends, build business cases, highlight opportunities and risks, and drive business decision making.
Qualifications Required
  • BS – Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent.
  • 12+ Years of Finance Experience including 5+ Years of People Leadership (direct or indirect).
  • MBA Finance or MS in Business Analytics or a similar degree.
  • Graduate of Finance Leadership Development Program.
  • Graduate of Executive MBA Program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Consulting Experience.
  • Prior experience working with a sales organization (new business) and client relationship (existing business) supporting contracts.
  • Business Analysis and Acumen: Models a rigorous discipline to solve complex challenges that cross over multiple domains; is decisive and can make difficult choices; applies analytical skills to broad business challenges; offers unique perspective and encourages insight generation in others; challenges others to stretch their thinking.
  • Influential Business Partner: Is seen by business partners as a trusted advisor and is sought out for both Finance and Business expertise; communicates the story behind the numbers and makes a compelling case to a variety of audiences; effectively challenges others’ assumptions and redirects thinking; manages conflict and negotiates effectively.
  • Information Management Acumen: Has solid desktop skills, specifically strong Excel skills including the ability to create basic macros; some familiarity with Cognos/Hyperion is preferred. Learns new technology quickly and is adept at using data to create existing reports.
