Job Summary

The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture provides strategicleadership for the institution's enterprise architecture function,ensuring a cohesive technology vision that supports academic,research, clinical, and administrative priorities. Serving asa trusted advisor to the CIO and executive leadership, this roleoversees enterprise, business, application, data, integration,infrastructure, and security architecture, aligning technologyinvestments with institutional goals and long-term strategicobjectives.

The Senior Director develops the enterprise architecturestrategy and roadmap, establishes governance and architecturalstandards, and guides modernization and digital transformationinitiatives across the institution. The role leads amultidisciplinary architecture team, chairs the Architecture ReviewBoard, and partners closely with IT and business leaders to drivecollaboration, reduce technical debt, and deliver scalable, secure,and sustainable technology solutions that support mission outcomesand future growth.

Core Responsibilities

1. Defines and executes the enterprise architecture vision andmulti-year roadmap aligned with institutional academic, research,clinical, and administrative priorities.
2. Serves as the institution's senior architecture representativewith executive leadership, external partners, and industrystakeholders.
3. Establishes and chairs architecture governance forums,including the Architecture Review Board, and defines architecturalstandards, principles, and decision frameworks.
4. Implements governance processes that balance standardization,risk management, and innovation while enabling efficient technologydelivery.
5. Develops and maintains the enterprise architecture operatingmodel, services, processes, and stakeholder engagementframework.
6. Leads enterprise, business, application, data, integration,infrastructure, cloud, and security architecture practices acrossthe institution.
7. Maintains current and future-state architecture models thatsupport strategic planning, modernization, and investmentdecisions.
8. Drives application portfolio rationalization and providesrecommendations for investment, modernization, consolidation, andretirement strategies.
9. Establishes enterprise data architecture standards supportinganalytics, data governance, AI, and institutionaldecision-making.
10. Defines architectural direction for enterprise identity,integration, API, and platform strategies.
11. Leads modernization initiatives, including legacy systemtransformation, cloud adoption, platform consolidation, andtechnology lifecycle management.
12. Establishes frameworks for measuring, prioritizing, andreducing technical debt across the technology portfolio.
13. Evaluates emerging technologies and identifies opportunities toleverage innovations such as AI, advanced analytics, and newplatform capabilities.
14. Embeds architecture practices into project and product deliverythrough standards, reusable patterns, and advisory support.
15. Partners with technology and business leaders to align roadmapsand resolve enterprise-wide architectural challenges.
16. Provides architectural oversight for major procurements, vendorevaluations, and strategic technology investments.
17. Partners with cybersecurity leadership to incorporate security,privacy, and risk management into enterprise architecture practicesand standards.
18. Ensures technology architectures support applicable regulatory,compliance, and research requirements while promoting scalable andsustainable solutions.
19. Defines institutional cloud strategies, including workloadplacement, architecture standards, security baselines, and costmanagement practices.
20. Provides architectural leadership for enterprise platforms,ensuring integration, interoperability, and consistent userexperiences.
21. Establishes enterprise AI and data platform strategies thatsupport responsible, well-governed use of emergingtechnologies.
22. Integrates technology risk management into architecturegovernance and supports enterprise risk, compliance, and auditinitiatives.
23. Establishes architecture standards that promote businesscontinuity, disaster recovery, operational resilience, and servicereliability.
24. Partners with portfolio and program leadership to ensuretechnology investments align with strategic priorities, financialgoals, and risk tolerance.
25. Fosters an environment of accountability, transparency,continuous improvement, and disciplined execution.
26. Builds and mentors a high-performing architecture team withexpertise across business, application, data, cloud, integration,and infrastructure domains.
27. Develops architecture communities of practice that promotecollaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional architecturalmaturity.
28. Manages the architecture function's budget, service portfolio,operational performance, and stakeholder satisfaction.
29. Maintains and communicates enterprise technology roadmaps tosupport strategic planning and decision-making.
30. Contributes to capital planning, vendor rationalization, andlong-term technology investment strategies in partnership withexecutive leadership.
31. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• Ten (10) years of progressive experience enterprise, business,application, data, or infrastructure architecture, including aminimum of five years leading multidisciplinary architecture teamsat scale.
• Demonstrated success defining and executing an enterprisearchitecture vision and multiyear roadmap in a complex, distributedinstitution, with measurable impact on modernization, technicaldebt reduction, or strategic technology direction.
• Proven experience establishing architecture governance,including review boards, architectural principles, referencepatterns, and the decision rights that connect architecture toproduct, project, and procurement decisions.
• Depth in at least three architecture disciplines, such asbusiness architecture, application and integration architecture,data architecture, infrastructure and cloud architecture, orsecurity architecture, with credible working knowledge across theothers.
• This position may require the ability to maintain the securityand integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per TexasEO-GA-48.

Working Conditions

• Office Environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings,training sessions or other business-related events. After hours andweekend work is required on an occasional basis. Occasional afterhours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
