Organization and Position Overview:

Lilly has announced a $4.5 billion investment to establish the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a pioneering center combining research and manufacturing. This facility will enhance development, optimize processes, increase capacity, and reduce costs and environmental impact.

The Senior Director, Foundry Automation Engineering, provides leadership for automation engineering, is a member of the Foundry Site Lead Team, and plays a key role in strategic planning, organizational development, and project execution during the project phases (2025-2028). This role requires collaboration, innovation, and resilience as the site transitions from design to steady-state operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop the automation engineering organization ensuring safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Define priorities and develop roadmaps for automation systems, integrating internal and external solutions.
  • Support project delivery, including design, commissioning, startup, and long-term operational support.
  • Establish organizational structures and manage automation resources effectively.
  • Ensure automation systems are qualified, safe, and compliant across all manufacturing modalities.
  • Build relationships with corporate departments and external partners to deliver automation solutions.
  • Maintain technical standards, develop best practices, and close discipline gaps.
  • Post-startup, continue to refine automation priorities, ensure compliance, and manage investments.
  • Collaborate on cybersecurity strategies and develop future automation leadership.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; at least 7 years experience in a regulated industry.
  • Experience with automation platforms and understanding of cGMPs.
Additional Preferences:
  • Proven project management and team development skills.
  • Experience deploying automation technologies in pharma.

  • Permanent location at Lilly Medicines Foundry, Lebanon, Indiana.
