Job summary

ENTRUST Solutions Group, a Leidos company, is seeking a experienced field technician to support utility design projects in Houston. The role involves field data collection, drafting, and mentoring junior staff across overhead and underground distribution systems.

You will perform design computations, prepare construction drawings and BOMs, and coordinate with engineers and crews. Travel to client sites is expected.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years in a design technician or utility design role.
• Familiarity with electric distribution systems (overhead/underground).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar drafting software.
• Ability to read construction drawings, specs, and utility standards.
• Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel regularly for fielding assignments.

Responsibilities

• Perform field visits to collect data on poles and infrastructure for design packages.
• Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems and prepare BOMs.
• Provide calculations: pole loading, voltage drop, permitting, and cost estimating.
• Conduct pole analysis modeling, GIS reviews, and prepare/update design prints.

• Manage multiple projects, ensuring quality, schedule, and client satisfaction.

Description

This position is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys hands‑on field work, developing utility design solutions, and mentoring junior team members. This is a non-Engineer fielding and design role requiring periodic travel to client sites to gather pole data, inspect infrastructure, and ensure design accuracy.

What You'll Do

• Perform field visits to collect data on utility poles and electrical infrastructure, ensuring accuracy for design packages.

• Review client records, GIS data, and field information to identify conflicts, verify accuracy, and incorporate updates.

• Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, schedule, and client expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in a design technician, engineering technician, or utility design role.
• Familiarity with electric distribution systems (overhead and underground).

• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility standards.
• Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel regularly for fielding assignments (mileage reimbursed).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in gas and/or electric distribution design.
• Experience with DDS design software tools.
• Knowledge of GIS systems such as SmallWorld or Bentley Utility Designer.
• Associate degree or advanced technical degree in a related field.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety practices.
