Job Summary

The Sr. Design Quality Engineer supports product development activities, manages a team, and ensures quality standards are met throughout new product development projects, including APQP, customer approvals, and handoffs to production. This strategic role involves providing quality guidance, training, and collaboration across teams.

Essential Job Functions

1. Serve as the primary quality partner supporting new product development customer teams.
2. Distribute work, oversee team completion, and provide feedback.
3. Interface with customers to ensure requirements are incorporated into project scopes.
4. Collaborate with supply chain and suppliers to meet quality standards, including supporting PPAP submissions.
5. Review and approve engineering drawings and support customer prototype and production approvals.
6. Use metrology, statistical methods, and root cause analysis to solve problems.
7. Coach and develop employees, identify high potentials, and execute training on APQP tools.
8. Lead training on engineering drawings and GD&T in accordance with ASME 14.5Y.
9. Manage project timelines, document lessons learned, and communicate effectively.
10. Lead as the primary contact for escalated customer concerns, ensuring resolution and satisfaction.
11. Identify and mitigate risks in designs collaboratively.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years related experience preferred.
2. Certified Quality Engineer is a plus.
3. Knowledge of AIAG standards, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Control Plans, and MSA.
4. Understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 systems.
5. Experience with CMM and CAD software (Verisurf a plus).
6. Expertise in reading engineering drawings, including GD&T.
7. Strong customer service and leadership skills.
8. Manufacturing process knowledge and some travel required.

Physical Requirements

• Work in production environments with variable temperatures and humidity.
• Stand for extended periods during sample builds and launches.
• Wear PPE as required.
