Job summary

OEC is undergoing a multi-year cloud transformation, modernizing infrastructure and migrating hundreds of services to AWS. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key role in shaping OEC’s future database platform by leading the evolution from legacy systems to scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions.

This senior, hands-on technical role will serve as a database engineering leader, driving AWS database strategy, migration efforts, architecture decisions, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of database administration experience.
• 3+ years managing AWS cloud database environments.
• Experience with Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Aurora PostgreSQL, and AWS database services.

Responsibilities

• Lead database migrations to AWS managed services (RDS, Aurora).
• Design cloud-native database architectures focused on scalability, security, and performance.
• Develop infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform and integrate provisioning into CI/CD pipelines.
• Execute migrations using AWS DMS and SCT.
• Establish database monitoring, backup, DR, and operational standards using AWS tools.
• Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

OEC is undergoing a multi-year cloud transformation, modernizing infrastructure and migrating hundreds of services to AWS. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key role in shaping OEC’s future database platform by leading the evolution from legacy systems to scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions. This senior, hands-on technical role will serve as a database engineering leader, driving AWS database strategy, migration efforts, architecture decisions, and operational excellence. You will partner with application engineering, DevOps, security, and cloud infrastructure teams to build a resilient AWS database ecosystem.

What You’ll Do

• Lead database migrations to AWS managed services, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Design and implement cloud-native database architectures focused on scalability, availability, security, and performance.
• Develop infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform and integrate database provisioning into CI/CD pipelines.
• Execute migrations using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
• Establish database monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and operational standards using AWS-native tools.
• Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Partner across engineering teams to define database strategy and modernization roadmaps.
• Mentor and elevate DBA team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.

What You’ll Bring

• 10+ years of database administration experience, including 3+ years managing AWS cloud database environments.
• Deep expertise with Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Aurora PostgreSQL, and AWS database services.
• Experience with AWS security, networking, monitoring, and governance practices.
• Strong Terraform experience supporting cloud infrastructure automation.
• Proven experience leading enterprise database migrations and modernization initiatives.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
