Job summary

McKesson is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support enterprise PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure. You will ensure availability, performance, security, and reliability while collaborating with application development, infrastructure, and support teams.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of production database experience, strong PostgreSQL and MSSQL expertise, and familiarity with HA, backup/recovery, and cloud hosting.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive database administration experience in production environments.
• Strong PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server expertise in enterprise environments.
• Experience with high-availability, backup/recovery, and security administration.
• Experience hosting databases in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Proficiency with PL/pgSQL and/or T-SQL, including query tuning and optimization.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, configure, maintain, and support PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases across on-premises and Azure environments.
• Monitor database health and performance; identify bottlenecks and implement tuning to improve reliability.
• Develop, maintain, and validate backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data availability.
• Administer database security, including user access, permissions, auditing, and regulatory compliance.
• Implement and support high-availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups and replication.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues involving performance, connectivity, and data integrity.
• Partner with development teams to optimize schemas, stored procedures, and queries.
• Develop and maintain database architecture documentation, runbooks, and standards.
• Perform capacity planning and participate in on-call rotations.

CoverMyMeds is seeking a skilled Senior Database Administrator to support and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server environments across both on-premises and cloud platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of business-critical database systems while partnering closely with application development, infrastructure, and support teams. The successful candidate will bring strong database administration expertise, a proactive approach to problem solving, and a commitment to operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do

• Design, install, configure, maintain, and support PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases across on-premises and Azure environments
• Monitor database health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning and optimization solutions to improve reliability and efficiency
• Develop, maintain, and validate backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data availability and business continuity
• Administer database security, including user access, permissions, auditing, and compliance with company security standards and regulatory requirements
• Implement and support high-availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, replication technologies, and failover capabilities
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues involving performance, connectivity, availability, corruption, and application integrations
• Partner with development teams to optimize database schemas, stored procedures, queries, and overall database design
• Develop and maintain database architecture documentation, operational procedures, and system standards
• Perform capacity planning and forecasting to support future growth and evolving business needs
• Participate in the on-call rotation to provide support for critical database systems and production incidents

Basic Requirements

• Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant, progressive database administration experience supporting production database environments
• Strong expertise administering PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments
• Experience with database installation, configuration, performance tuning, security administration, backup and recovery, and high availability solutions
• Proficiency with PL/pgSQL and/or T‑SQL, including query tuning and optimization
• Experience troubleshooting complex database issues and implementing effective long‑term solutions
• Experience supporting databases hosted in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Experience using automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell or Python
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with cross‑functional technical teams

Preferred Skills / Experience

• Experience supporting additional relational database management systems such as Oracle or MySQL
• Familiarity with cloud database platforms and managed services, including Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS, or Google AlloyDB
• Experience implementing database automation and operational efficiencies through scripting and tooling
• Exposure to database monitoring and observability solutions
• Experience supporting high‑availability and disaster recovery architectures in cloud and hybrid environments
• Experience working within healthcare or other regulated environments
