Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own product delivery and forward planning for Cloud Data Solutions’ data products. You will translate business needs into a prioritized roadmap, while contributing hands-on to data engineering, data modeling, and data integration across Trading, Assets, Operations, and related areas.

You will coordinate with the Data Office and governance teams, implement robust data pipelines, and drive data quality and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in energy trading, asset management, or energy market operations.
  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining cloud-based data pipelines on a major cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools, workflow orchestration, data transformation frameworks, APIs, and system integration.
  • Understanding of data modeling, data quality practices, data lineage concepts, metadata, and documentation.
  • Experience gathering requirements, refining user stories, managing a delivery backlog, and prioritizing a roadmap.

Job description

As the Senior Data Engineer, you will own product delivery and forward planning for Cloud Data Solutions’ data products. You will serve as the primary connection point between business stakeholders, the Data Office, and the Cloud Solutions engineering team. Each day, you will translate business needs into a prioritized roadmap and backlog while also contributing hands‑on to data engineering, data modeling, and data integration work. Your work will help ensure cloud‑based data solutions are reliable, high‑quality, performant, and aligned to the needs of teams across Trading, Assets, Operations, and related business areas.

Product Ownership & Business Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders (Trading, Assets, Operations), the Data Office, and the Cloud Solutions delivery team
  • Own and maintain a prioritized product backlog and forward‑looking roadmap for assigned data products, balancing competing demands across a growing base of data platform customers
  • Gather and refine requirements from business users and analysts; translate them into well‑defined user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Communicate progress, risks, and trade‑offs to stakeholders and leadership
  • Clearly articulate data dependencies, constraints, and solution options to non‑technical audiences
  • Coordinate with the Data Office on governance, cataloging, and compliance requirements
  • Identify gaps in current data capabilities and recommend solutions that align with business strategy
  • Provide forward planning input and roadmap visibility to the IT Director and program managers
  • Monitor evolving business needs and proactively adjust priorities and plans
  • Build, test, and maintain cloud‑based data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and delivery across batch and streaming use cases
  • Develop and maintain data models, metadata, and documentation that support analytics, reporting, and downstream applications
  • Implement data quality checks, error handling, monitoring, and performance tuning for pipelines and data flows

Best Practices

  • Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and Agile ceremonies
  • Follow best practices in data engineering, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automation where appropriate
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and integration issues, ensuring accuracy and availability of critical business data
  • Assist in training business users and team members on data products and development processes

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in which you completed courses in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in energy trading, asset management, or energy market operations, with the ability to understand the data, business context, and stakeholder needs
  • A Minimum of 5 years of experience building and maintaining cloud‑based data pipelines using a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools, workflow orchestration, data transformation frameworks, APIs, and integration with external systems
  • Understanding of data modeling, data quality practices, data lineage concepts, metadata, and documentation
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, refine user stories, manage a delivery backlog, prioritize a roadmap, plan releases, and manage competing stakeholder demands
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to explain data concepts and trade‑offs to non‑technical users and leadership
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; a minimum of 3 days working in the office per week is required
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;

Compensation

Salary Range: $102,000 – $170,000 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
