Synectics for Management Decisions Inc in the Washington DC metro area is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to design and operate large-scale enterprise data platforms for a government client.

The role is remote, with periodic onsite reporting as required, and is contingent on contract award. You will build secure ETL pipelines, cloud-native lakehouse strategies, and support AI-ready data flows in AWS GovCloud and Azure Government, requiring 7+ years in data engineering and federal environment

Qualifications

• 7+ years of data engineering experience using Spark, Kafka, AWS Glue, or Azure Data Factory.
• Experience with cloud-native automation in federal government environments.
• Active IAM Level II or III security certifications preferred (e.g., Security+ CE, CISSP).

Job description

We're looking for a Sr. Data Engineer with experience with large scale enterprise data platforms for a government agency located in the Washington DC metro area. This is a remote position; however, staff may be required to report onsite periodically based on client and business requirements. Position is contingent upon contract award.

Overview:

Establishes enterprise data pipelines and high-availability structures to modernize a government agency's mission-critical data stores into Authoritative Sources of Truth (ASOTs).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize secure ETL/ELT pipelines streaming complex maritime operational data into AWS GovCloud/Azure Government spaces.
• Implement enterprise data fabric architectures enabling unified discovery across 11 distinct operational networks.
• Transition brittle legacy systems into modern cloud-native lakehouse repositories optimized for downstream AI ingestion.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of dedicated data engineering experience utilizing Apache Spark, Kafka, AWS Glue, or Azure Data Factory.
• Strong command of cloud-native infrastructure automation within federal government environments.
• Active IAM Level II or III certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CISSP) highly preferred.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to pass a federal background investigation prior to starting work and maintain eligibility throughout the engagement.

Salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $180,000.00

Salary: $130000.00 - $180000.00 per year

Work Authorization: Government customer requires U.S. citizenship to work on the program. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
