Job summary

Pilot Company is seeking a Senior Counsel, Privacy & Technology to provide strategic legal counsel on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, AI, and technology transactions. This role partners closely with Legal, Information Security, IT, Product, HR, Compliance, and business leaders to ensure compliance and support business growth.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of relevant experience, a J.D., and Tennessee licensure.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in Tennessee or registration with the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners.
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 8+ years of legal experience with focus on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, technology transactions, and regulatory compliance.
Experience advising on U.S. privacy laws, data governance, cybersecurity matters, and tech risks.
Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex tech agreements (SaaS, cloud, data-sharing, vendor contracts).
In-house counsel experience in regulated industries is preferred.
This position requires authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Provide legal counsel on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, AI, and technology matters.
Advise leaders on compliance with privacy and data protection laws.
Draft, review, and negotiate technology, software, cloud services, data-sharing, and vendor agreements.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify and mitigate privacy and technology risks.
Support cybersecurity incident response activities, including breach assessment and regulatory reporting.
Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies, standards, governance frameworks, and related programs.
Conduct legal reviews of new products, technologies, data initiatives, and digital projects.
Monitor evolving laws and provide practical guidance to stakeholders.
Manage regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, and outside counsel matters.
Deliver risk-based legal guidance to support business objectives while protecting the organization.
Assist with special projects and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Model behaviors that support the company’s purpose and support guests and team members.
Complete other duties, as assigned.

Sr Counsel, Privacy and Technology

The Senior Counsel, Privacy & Technology serves as a strategic legal advisor responsible for providing counsel on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, technology transactions, and digital innovation initiatives. This role partners closely with Legal, Information Security, IT, Product, HR, Compliance, and business leaders to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations while supporting business growth and technology adoption.

Essential Functions

Provide legal counsel on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and technology related matters.
Advise business leaders on compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations.
Draft, review, and negotiate technology, software, cloud services, data-sharing, and vendor agreements.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate privacy and technology risks.
Support cybersecurity incident response activities, including breach assessment, notification, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies, standards, governance frameworks, and related compliance programs.
Conduct legal reviews of new products, technologies, data initiatives, and digital transformation projects.
Monitor emerging laws, regulations, and industry developments related to privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and technology, and provide practical guidance to stakeholders.
Manage regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, and outside counsel related to privacy and technology matters.
Deliver risk based legal guidance and training to support business objectives while protecting the organization’s legal and regulatory interests.
Support special projects and process improvement initiatives while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level.

Minimum of 8+ years of legal experience with significant focus on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, technology transactions, and regulatory compliance.
Experience advising organizations on U.S. privacy laws, data governance, cybersecurity matters, and technology-related legal risks.
Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS, cloud services, software licensing, data-sharing, and vendor contracts.
Experience supporting cybersecurity incident response, data breach investigations, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to develop practical, business-focused legal solutions.
In-house counsel experience supporting technology, healthcare, financial services, retail, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
Experience advising on artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and emerging technology initiatives preferred.

Specialized Knowledge
