Job summary

The Carlstar Group is seeking a Sr. Cost Accountant to perform financial analysis, support month-end close, and build financial models for plant operations in Tennessee.

You will prepare product line profitability statements, analyze data, and present results to plant and executive management to inform decisions. Strong Excel and 5+ years in manufacturing finance are required; CMA/CPA/MBA encouraged.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Finance or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years experience in a manufacturing finance role.
  • Strong MS Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Experience presenting to plant and executive management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close activities and journal entries.
  • Own fixed asset accounting and capital expenditures.
  • Develop product line profitability statements for growth decisions.
  • Lead countermeasures and continuous improvement projects.
  • Manage cycle counting and annual physical inventory processes.
  • Audit costing, BOMs, and routings for accuracy.

Job Purpose StatementThe Sr. Cost Accountant performs financial analysis, provides operational insights, and assists with the development and presentation of monthly financial packages and quarterly operations reports which are reviewed with plant and executive management. This position is also responsible for developing, building, and maintaining financial models, analysis of operational and financial data, and developing presentations of results to inform and support operational and financial decisions and effectiveness. Whether youre in Finance, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Human Resources, working the shop floor, Manufacturing, Supply Chain or any other field of expertise, The Carlstar Group offers an exciting opportunity in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.Summary of Responsibilities:Responsible for all month end closing activities including, but not limited to journal entries, supporting documentation, reconciliations, analysis, etc.Owns all aspects of fixed asset accounting and all capital expenditure spendInsightful analysis of results and forecasts presented to plant and executive managementDevelop / Manage product line profitability statements to support profitable growthProactively work with department management, cross-functional teams, and lead projects for development of countermeasures and continuous improvement to achieve forecasted resultsContinuous improvement of accounting processes to eliminate wasteDevelop / Implement / Manage a cycle counting procedure throughout the plantLead the preparation, analysis, and completion of the annual physical inventoryAudit costing, bills of material, and routings for accuracy and manage quoting process for sales teamWork with Industrial Engineer to update our routing process to improve costingSupport the creation of monthly forecastsSupport the creation of annual budget and cost roll activitiesPerform other duties as assignedEssential Functions:Work closely with operations to ensure forecast results, identify trends, and develop countermeasures to any missesDrive results and continuous improvement in the organizationOrganize and prioritize workWork at a high level of confidentialityWork with cross-functional teams to resolve existing production reporting issues (Procurement, Finance, Engineering, and Production)Required Education and Experience:BS/BA financial degree and preferred continued education (CMA, CPA, or MBA)Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing financial roleStrong understanding of MS Excel and other MS Office products with solid conceptual skills; strong analytical skillsProven experience implementing and driving continuous improvement in an organizationPersonal Trait Profile:Strong written and verbal communication skills; detail orientedStrong analytical skills, highly motivated, quick learner, and self-starterSelf-motivated and results oriented; initiates and drives value added projects to successful completionTeam player; ability to work across the organizationAbility to work on several projects simultaneouslyAbility to maintain a high level of confidentialityAbility to influence and lead employeesAbility to translate the vision of the company and its business strategyGoal/Results oriented; ability to set high goals and achieve resultsAbility to work flexible schedule as needed
