Job summary

Novus Foods is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to ensure technical accuracy of the P&L and Balance Sheet as they relate to cost accounting. This role partners with Procurement, FP&A, Transportation, and Plant Controllers to support cost efficiency and improve budgeting accuracy.

The position involves analyzing expenses, managing standard costs, performing variance analyses, supporting pricing with costing analytics, and collaborating with R&D, Sales, and Data Management on BOM setup

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years Cost Accounting experience.
• Advanced understanding of costing methods, General Ledger associations and Income Statement impacts.
• Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes expenses and cost transactions; ensures transactions are recorded accurately in the correct period and GL accounts.
• Prepares periodic reports tracking data across plant activities.
• Manage standard costs of raw materials and finished goods per corporate policies.
• Perform labor and overhead variance analysis (standard vs actual).
• Support pricing with current costing analytics including inbound freight.
• Partner with R&D, Sales and Data Management on costing and BOM maintenance.
• Create weekly inventory adjustments to forecast and reconcile monthly inventory.

Job description

The Senior Cost Accountant will have responsibility for ensuring technical accuracy of the P&L and Balance Sheet as they relate to Cost Accounting. This individual will partner with Procurement, FP&A, Transportation, and Plant Controllers, to support operational cost efficiency. This role will assist in the collection and analysis of financial information related to the organization’s expenses, capital, and performance to define ways to improve accuracy of budgets, forecasts, and overall processes as determined by normal operations and periodic performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Analyzes expenses and cost transactions; ensures that transactions are recorded accurately, in the correct Financial period and assigned to the appropriate GL Accounts, Department/Dimensions, and Projects.
• Conducts specific research to recommend process improvement and to monitor and measure performance operations
• Prepares periodic reports tracking data across all plant activities.
• Manage standard costs of raw materials and finished goods in accordance with corporate policies including both new and existing items
• Assist in management of annual calculation of standard direct labor and overhead cost rates, monitor throughout the fiscal year
• Perform standard to actual Labor and Overhead variance analysis
• Support Pricing Team by providing current costing analytics including Inbound freight
• Partner with R&D and Sales on costing of new product development
• Partner with Data Management on BOM setup and maintenance
• Create weekly Inventory Adjustment Walk to forecast
• Reconcile Monthly Inventory and assist in monthly inventory reserve calculation
• Partner with Inventory Control Manager on Inventory management KPI’s and process
• Serve as Finance partner in ensuring inventory SOP adherence
• Analyze and identify root cause/corrective Action of weekly/monthly PPV variances
• Partner with Strategic Sourcing in forecasting and evaluating Purchase Price Variance
• Support calculations and accruals of pass-through material expenses
• Partner with Senior Manager Supply Chain Finance on Budget, Forecast and actuals
• Collaborate with Site Controllers on analytics process and reporting of cost per pound metrics.
• Construct Ad-Hoc costing analysis supporting Supply Chain and operations projects; both to estimate future costs and measure actuals.
• Perform other duties and ad-hoc requests as assigned

POSITION GOALS:

• Assist in continued development of Corporate Standard Cost method and processes
• Participate in creation and deployment of cross-functional SOP’s as they relate to Corporate cost structure
• Develop standardized weekly and monthly cost metric measurements unified across plant locations
• Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance or related field
• Minimum of 7 years Cost Accounting experience
• SAP experience preferred
• Advanced understanding of costing methods, General Ledger associations and Income Statement impacts
• Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
• Experience in Overhead Cost Absorption Allocation
• Excellent communication, relationship building and negotiating skills
• Strong analytical and quantitative ability
• Demonstrated solid working knowledge of Microsoft Applications, including Word, Excel & Power Point
• Must be a hands-on person who is comfortable with lean, fast-paced working environments.
