Job Summary:

The Sr. Controls Engineer will drive the design, functionality, and testing of automated sortation systems. Responsibilities include designing and programming new projects, diagnosing and resolving controls issues involving I/O, hardware, and software, and providing leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. The role supports system documentation, functionality, and adherence to customer specifications.

Essential Functions:
  1. Write and implement modular PLC code and assist with controls engineering tasks onsite.
  2. Design and develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) using products like Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, or FactoryTalk Optix.
  3. Implement PLC and HMI programs per design and customer specifications.
  4. Collaborate with team members, customers, and vendors during design and execution phases.
  5. Review electrical designs and produce accurate as-built drawings.
  6. Commission and troubleshoot complex automated systems, support site engineering, and conduct system acceptance testing.
  7. Support system commissioning efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
  2. 4-7 years of experience in industrial controls, including PLC programming (Rockwell required), HMI programming, device design, and troubleshooting.
  3. Experience with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.) and low voltage electrical design.
  4. Equivalent work experience may substitute for education; VFD experience is preferred.
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
Skills and Abilities:
  1. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, results-focused.
  2. Understanding of VFDs, motors, PLCs, and industrial networks.
  3. Project and relationship management skills.
  4. Strong troubleshooting and system implementation skills.
  5. Effective communication and leadership abilities, including mentoring junior engineers.
Work Environment & Travel:

This role operates in an office environment and on-site at industrial locations, with up to 50% travel required. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working around machinery with appropriate PPE.
