Ingenium Talent is assisting a large global manufacturing client in Nashville in their search for an experienced Controls Engineer. The role supports a highly automated production environment, driving PLC, robotics, and electrical control programs.

You will lead automation projects, troubleshoot complex systems, and uphold safety and engineering standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve downtime and throughput.

Qualifications

  • Requires a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years in controls engineering or automation.
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, RSLogix, and HMI systems.
  • Ability to read and modify electrical schematics and controls documentation.
  • Proven record leading automation projects and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for PLC, robotics, HMI, and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Support new equipment launches, automation projects, and controls upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot controls and robotics issues to minimize downtime and improve performance.

  • Maintain controls documentation, backups, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support plant operations.

Job description

Our client, a large global manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support a highly automated production environment. This facility serves as a flagship operation where the company pilots and implements new automation technologies, advanced manufacturing systems, and process innovations before broader deployment across other locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for PLC, robotics, HMI, and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Support new equipment launches, automation projects, and controls system upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve controls and robotics issues to minimize downtime and improve operational performance.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain PLC, robotic, and electrical control programs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity, quality, and process optimization.
  • Maintain controls documentation, system backups, and engineering standards throughout the equipment lifecycle.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support plant operations and drive manufacturing excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, electrical, and manufacturing standards.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, manufacturing engineering, or industrial maintenance.
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, RSLogix, HMI systems, industrial networking, and robotics (Fanuc and/or ABB preferred).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify electrical schematics and controls documentation.
  • Proven success leading automation projects, troubleshooting complex manufacturing systems, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Experience with VAVE, Lean Manufacturing, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and project management tools is highly desirable.
