Sr. Controls Engineer

As a Sr. Controls Engineer at Design Group, you will work with industry experts to solve complex problems for leading companies. You will be part of our Control System Integration Practice, partnering with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality, consistent solutions to clients.

What You’ll Do

You will support capital projects and implement solutions that improve client performance and help achieve their goals. Your responsibilities include:

1. Design automation control systems; develop project specifications, documentation, and drawings for high-speed and automated manufacturing processes.
2. Participate in automation project phases including software configuration, testing, commissioning, installation, and start-up.
3. Lead project execution including team leadership, SCADA design, PLC and HMI programming, and site start-up support for integrated systems.
4. Maintain and grow strong client relationships.
5. Troubleshoot packaging lines, process systems, and software systems.
6. Manage multiple project responsibilities with minimal supervision.
7. Make a daily impact with your skills, strengthening client and team relationships.

What You’ll Bring

Requirements include:

1. At least 7 years of automation experience with HMI, SCADA, PLCs, and electrical control panel design.
2. Experience in packaging and process controls within consumer products, life sciences, or food and beverage industries (preferred).
3. Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC5, SLC500), PanelView HMIs, and industrial networks (Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, DH+).
4. Experience with FactoryTalk Suite, Wonderware, VisualBasic/C#/Java (preferred).
5. Engineering consulting experience (preferred).
6. Strong client interaction skills.
7. Excellent troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
8. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
9. Willingness to travel for project needs, including installation, start-up, meetings, training, and industry events.
10. Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field (preferred).
