Senior Controls Engineer develops, implements, trouble shoots and optimizes controls systems on in house new and existing production equipment. Candidate will be a critical member of a highly motivated Automation Engineering team focused on producing industry leading advanced power component solutions used in industrial, hyperscalers, AI, aerospace, defense, and automotive industries.
• Electrical & Controls design:
o Design, develop, test, and support controls systems which including conceptualization of control systems, development of schematics, development machine to network communication configurations, component specification, costing, panel building and wiring.
o Provides electrical designs and programming within applicable standards to build new or modify existing production machines and systems.
• Vision:
o Familiar with visions systems such as Cognex Insight, Vision Pro and VIDI
• Software:
o Familiar with ladder logic PLC programming.
o Develop and maintain, cost-effective PLC controls
o Maintain routine backup schedules for equipment software
• Project Management and Technical Team Leadership:
o A plus having prior experience supporting and leading technically teams in the design, development and optimization of custom automation machinery and tooling.
o Adheres to scope, quality, schedule, and budget requirements of assigned tasks
o Ability to balance the need to “keep things running” with allocating time to long-term, high-impact projects
• SME:
o Provide SME (subject matter expert) support to Manufacturing, Technical Support, Manufacturing Engineering and other departments for the design and operation of control process automation systems.
• Network: Support Technical Support:
o Work closely with Technical Support to identify root cause of network communication issues between equipment and Vicor’s LAN system.
o Work with Technical Support to install, program, troubleshoot or repair IP based code scanners on Vicor’s LAN system.
• Support Technical Support Department
o Ability to debug electrical control systems to the component level.
o Ability to trouble shoot PLC control systems.
o Provide Technical Support floor support for pneumatics, servos, VFD’s, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, and automation systems integration
o Provide Technical Support floor support for Software, PLC logic, and program troubleshooting.
o Works with and assist Technical Support to solve issues, transfer knowledge and know-how
• Generates manuals, design documents:
o Develop electrical schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts on CAD software.
o Create accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials)
o Write user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings to communicate to Line Techs and Engineers
• Safety Standards:
o Abides and practices corporate, NFPA and OSHA standards for electrical systems standardization
• Capital Engineering Projects:
o Support capital engineering projects for new equipment, including scanner to network configurations, auto recipe software and hardware integration, coordination with vendors for power and network construction, and new equipment startups.
• Maintain Knowledge:
o Maintain knowledge of advanced developments in sensors, scanners, measurement systems, and vision systems.
o Research supplier products for assembly components
• Motion Control:
o Familiar with various Motion Controllers and Actuators
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• 5 plus years of experience in supporting manufacturing automation
• 2 years of PLC programing, HMI programing, Servo Control programing and electrical control schematic design.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with CAD and office tools (2D CAD, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)
• Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion
Salary Range:
$100,000 - $140,000
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity
