Who You Are:

We are seeking a Sr Construction Inspector with knowledge and experience of construction standards and practices. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience performing construction inspection within Virginia, including work for VDOT. The Sr Construction Inspector will have responsibilities as noted in the Construction Inspector description, along with additional specific duties.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications on VDOT-related projects.
• Coordinate and direct all phases of construction inspection, especially on projects involving extensive traffic control, environmental sensitivities, or requiring significant coordination with property owners, utility companies, or government agencies.
• Schedule and coordinate construction phases with contractors and agency personnel.
• Review and monitor contractors' plans of operation and advise on violations.
• Conduct field measurements and material testing.
• Maintain comprehensive project records, including diaries, material notebooks, as-built plans, and progress reports.
• Assist in developing work orders, investigations, and Notices of Intent.
• Evaluate progress schedules and perform work order analyses.
• Serve as Lead Inspector for a team of inspectors when necessary.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have 7+ years of highway construction inspection experience and meet all requirements of the TS II-C / Construction Inspector certification. The candidate should also have comprehensive knowledge of:

• Roadway, structure, and bridge construction, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
• VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual.
• Certifications related to concrete, pavement, drainage, asphalt, and other inspection areas.
• Environmental, safety, and EEO regulations at the state and federal levels.

The candidate should be proficient in:

• Providing technical supervision and leadership.
• Conducting project meetings.
• Applying mathematical and management principles for field adjustments.
• Effective communication with agency and contractor personnel and the public.

Certifications must be maintained as per departmental requirements, which may vary throughout the contract duration.

Note: The hourly rate is subject to the maximum listed in the current CEI classification pay limitations memorandum.
