Job summary

Munson Healthcare is seeking an outpatient coder to accurately code and abstract outpatient medical records, including complex procedures, in a timely manner. You will assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT-4 codes per established guidelines and AHIMA ethics, while maintaining an organized system for reference material.

The role emphasizes ongoing education and skill maintenance through internal development activities and departmental guidelines to ensure high-quality coding compliance.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information is required.
• CCS, RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification is required.
• Two years’ experience coding with ICD10-CM and CPT-4 (Outpatient Senior Coder).

A Day inthe Life

• Accurately codes and abstracts outpatient medical records, per work assignment, meeting expected productivity standards. Accurately codes and abstracts complex outpatient surgery procedures.

• Assigns ICD10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 procedure codes, per established national, departmental guidelines and AHIMA Code of Ethics.

• Maintains organized system for personal coding reference material. Participates in educational activities and maintains coding skills.

What’s Required

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information is required. CCS certification and 2 years coding experience will be considered.

• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required.

• Two years’ previous coding experience using ICD10-CM, CPT-4 coding systems (Outpatient Senior Coder).

Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella. MHC also requires all employees to receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year that they are hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption.
