Job summary

Smith+Nephew in Memphis is seeking a Sr. CNC Programmer to design, optimize, and maintain advanced CNC programs for high-precision medical components.

The role focuses on multi-axis milling and turning, leveraging CAD/CAM tools to ensure quality and compliance in a heavily regulated environment. You will drive efficiency, prepare work instructions, mentor fellow programmers and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development and Quality teams to support validated processes and

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required, technical or college degree preferred
  • 5+ years CNC programming experience including 3+ years using CAD CAM software
  • Strong experience programming multi-axis mills, mill-turn or lathe equipment
  • Solid understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds with standardization
  • Ability to work effectively in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem solving skills including trigonometry
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain and optimize multi-axis CNC programs using CAD CAM software
  • Improve machining efficiency via optimized cutting strategies and tool life
  • Support regulated manufacturing operations with robust CNC solutions
  • Prove out CNC programs on machine tools and perform real-time corrections
  • Prepare detailed work instructions and support machining validations
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Eng, Product Development, Quality and plant teams
  • Maintain master CNC program directory for file integrity and compliance
  • Drive cost improvements and support continuous improvement and kaizen activities
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and coordination for programmers and machinists
  • Support equipment validation and help select new machining equipment
