Job summary

WSB seeks a Sr. CMT Technician to perform field and laboratory tests on construction materials, ensuring compliance with project specs and industry standards.

You will support environmental, engineering, and construction projects, provide test data, and collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to maintain quality and safety on sites. The role requires heavy outdoor work, travel within the territory, and occasional night shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience and certifications related to construction inspection or construction materials testing.
• MnDOT and/or ACI Certification.
• Ability to operate computer systems and peripheral equipment.
• Field & lab assignments may require travel and/or work to be performed on site.

Responsibilities

• Perform field & laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
• Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
• Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
• Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
• Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
• Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
• Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
• Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
• Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
• Inspect various excavation and topsoil handling activities.
• Maintain considerable contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

CMT Technician is responsible for performing field and laboratory tests on construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role supports environmental, engineering, and construction projects by providing accurate test and inspection data, maintaining equipment, and preparing detailed reports. The technician will work collaboratively with engineering staff, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and safety on construction sites.

What You Will Do

• Perform field & laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
• Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
• Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
• Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
• Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
• Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
• Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
• Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
• Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
• Inspect common, unclassified and roadway excavation, embankment, borrow pits, and removal, storage, and placement of topsoil.
• Complete appropriate forms and paperwork for construction activities completed each day.
• Maintain considerable contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Work with other task team members and leaders.
• Moves a case weighing up to 95 pounds.
• Pushes up to 250 pounds in a wheelbarrow.
• Remains in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Operates tools requiring fine motor skills.
• Traverses' construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
• Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations.
• Conducts visual assessments of construction quality and safety.

What You Will Bring

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience and certifications related to construction inspection or construction materials testing.
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
  • MnDOT and/or ACI Certification.
  • Ability to operate computer systems and peripheral equipment.
  • Field & lab assignments may require travel and/or work to be performed on site.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Operatestools requiring fine motor skills.
  • Moves materials weighing up to 75 pounds periodically.
  • Traversesconstruction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
  • Conducts visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
  • Positions selfto access tools and materials in various locations.
  • Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection.
  • May remain in stationary position for extended periods.:
  • Primarily field-based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Full‑time position with standard business hours; occasional night work or overtime may be required based on project deadlines.
  • Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
  • Reliable transportation required and the ability to travel daily within assigned territory.
  • Travel may be required.
