Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Senior Clinical Dietitian position is responsible for functioning as an experienced clinician in accordance with the standards established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). The role includes duties of a clinical dietitian and emphasizes application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), including completing nutrition assessments, diagnosing nutrition issues, developing and implementing interventions, and monitoring patient progress. The position also involves mentoring dietetic interns and entry-level clinicians, collaborating with the healthcare team to provide integrated inpatient/outpatient care aligned with patient-focused goals. Additionally, the role participates in departmental and quality improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with clients on nutritional concerns and develop nutrition plans based on assessments and goals
  • Serve as a resource for nutrition inquiries and provide counseling adhering to ethical standards

  • Develop and deliver nutrition education, evaluating patient understanding
  • Advocate for patients and resolve ethical concerns

  • Ensure continuity of care, document outcomes, and collaborate with the team
  • Use clinical judgment and evidence-based approaches to meet nutritional needs
  • Complete quality monitors and identify practice improvements

Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate from an approved education program for required credentials
Work Experience
  • Minimum three years of clinical nutrition experience as a Registered Dietitian
License/Certification
Required
  • RD - Registered Dietitian (by CDR)
  • LD - State Licensure within 60 days
Preferred
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Competency in safe practice, communication, and computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to work independently
