BoxPower, Inc. in Grass Valley, CA, is seeking a Senior Civil Estimator to own civil and site-work cost for every bid, from early budgets to final pricing.

You will translate drawings, site visits and subcontractor quotes into accurate estimates while accounting for remote-site logistics and mobilization. The role reports to the Preconstruction Manager, is full-time and exempt, with occasional field visits.

Formación

• 7+ years of civil/site estimating experience.
• Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, concrete, roads and drainage.
• Ability to read civil, structural, electrical drawings and geotechnical reports.
• Experience with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, PlanSwift or OST) and advanced Excel.
• Track record of accurate estimates on projects from under $1M to $10M+.
• Clear written and verbal communication to leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.

Responsabilidades

• Build a complete cost picture including labor, equipment, materials, mobilization, freight and contingency.
• Identify risks, exclusions and assumptions and document them.
• Recommend value engineering and constructability improvements.
• Maintain cost database and estimating templates.
• Hand off estimates to project team and support budget.
• Compare final project costs against estimates to improve accuracy.
• Mentor junior estimators and support standard processes.

The role

The Sr. Civil Estimator owns the civil and site work cost for every BoxPower bid, from early budget estimates through final pricing. You will turn drawings, site visits and subcontractor quotes into accurate, defensible estimates that let us win work and deliver it profitably. Many of our sites are remote, so a strong sense of logistics, access and mobilization cost is essential.

• Travel: Occasional site visits as required

What you will do

• Prepare conceptual, budgetary and hard-bid estimates for civil and site work on BoxPower projects.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, grading, foundations, concrete pads, trenching, conduit and duct banks, access roads, fencing, drainage and erosion control.
• Visit sites to assess access, soils, terrain and logistics, and build those conditions into the estimate.
• Write clear scopes of work, issue bid packages, and level and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Build a complete cost picture, including labor, equipment, materials, mobilization, freight, permitting and contingency.
• Identify risks, exclusions and assumptions, and document them clearly in each estimate.
• Recommend value engineering options and constructability improvements to Engineering and Project Management.
• Maintain and improve BoxPower's cost database, unit rates and estimating templates.
• Hand off estimates to the project team at contract award and support budget setup and buyout.
• Compare final project costs against estimates to improve future accuracy.
• Mentor junior estimators and support standard estimating processes across the team.

What you bring

• 7+ years of civil or site work estimating experience with a general contractor, civil contractor or design-build firm.
• Strong working knowledge of earthwork, utilities, concrete, roads, drainage and site improvements.
• Ability to read and interpret civil, structural and electrical drawings, specifications and geotechnical reports.
• Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, PlanSwift or On-Screen Takeoff) and advanced Excel.
• A track record of accurate estimates on projects ranging from under $1M to $10M+.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including presenting estimates and assumptions to leadership.
• Ability to manage several bids at once and meet firm deadlines.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience estimating solar, battery storage, substation or utility infrastructure projects.
• Experience with remote or rural sites, including Alaska, where freight, access and seasonal limits drive cost.
• Familiarity with prevailing wage and public or utility-funded projects.
• Experience with design-build and EPC contracts.
• Working knowledge of RSMeans or similar cost references.
• Professional certification such as AACE Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or ASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $120,000 – $140,000 annually. Compensation offered will be
determined by the candidate's experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
