Job summary

BJ’s Wholesale Club in Marlborough, MA is seeking a Senior Analyst, Category Profit Improvement to deliver fact-based guidance to the Manager of Category Profit Improvement and Merchandise leaders in selecting vendors, brands, and SKUs that boost sales and profit.

You will conduct rigorous analytics on space, brands, and costs, develop negotiation materials with the Category Review team, and track deals to ensure vendor commitments and value are realized in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field.
• 3+ years of analytical experience with strong merchandise profitability knowledge.
• Understanding of retail merchandising basics and category management.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to present findings in PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to build relationships with Merchandise leadership.
• Self-motivated, curious, high-energy in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct rigorous analytical research on space, brands, SKUs, and vendor costs.
• Develop 'Ask' materials for vendor negotiations with the Category Review team.
• Serve as the Merchant team point person for SKU-based sales and cost analysis.
• Identify and track value-saving opportunities during negotiations.
• Monitor deals over time to ensure obligations are met.
• Guard against claw-backs and prevent value leakage.
• Monitor vendor cost changes and flag unjustified increases.

The Senior Analyst, Category Profit Improvement will provide fact-based and data-driven guidance to the Manager of Category Profit Improvement and Merchandise leaders in selecting vendors, brands, and SKU’s that result in increased sales and profit.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

• Conduct rigorous analysis and research, including: competitive benchmarking (space, brands, SKUs), market insights, customer insights (eg, surveys, loyalty analysis), vendor insight (cost structures) and extensive SKU/brand/vendor-level analysis (relative productivity, profitability, brand loyalty, SKU transferability, etc.).
• Work with the Category Review team to develop “Ask” materials to be shared with vendors during negotiations.
• Serve Merchant team as point person for all SKU based analytical research focused on sales and cost.
• Value savings opportunities during negotiations to support decision-making.
• Track deals over time to ensure vendors and BJ’s are meeting their deal obligations.
• Protect against claw-back, ensuring that vendors do not find ways to pull back the value over time.
• Track vendor cost increases to identify unjustified vendor increases (eg, relative to commodity price movements), and proactively identify decreases due to BJ’s commensurate with commodity price drops.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree or equivalent experience; Finance and/or other quantitative analytical degree a strong plus
• 3+ years of relevant analytical experience with strong merchandise profitability understanding
• Understanding of retail merchandising basics (ie, category management), and merchandising organizational structures and processes
• Strong analytical skills including Excel skills
• Strong communication skills including the ability to translate analytical research into presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of Merchandise leadership
• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing work priorities

Job Conditions

This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ’s Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is $78,000.00 - $101,000.00
