Job summary

Airbus Americas, Inc. in Mobile, AL is seeking an experienced Cabin Upgrade Engineer to join the on-site team. You will apply advanced aerospace engineering and project management to deliver high‑quality cabin retrofit solutions for commercialization and after‑sales.

Responsibilities include architecting retrofit concepts, coordinating global stakeholders, and developing certification plans aligned with FAA/EASA requirements. Strong CAD skills (CATIA V5) and a proven track record are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering with 9+ years of experience, or Master’s with 7+ years.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (CATIA V5).
  • Experience delivering milestones on time in airline/MRO contexts.
  • Experience with FAA/EASA regulations for parts procurement and documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design cabin retrofit solutions from global architecture to detailed drawings.
  • Create robust retrofit drawings and documentation focusing on lead time, quality, and cost.
  • Define kit requirements to support retrofit design.
  • Develop aircraft modifications in line with project plans.
  • Author and manage program enablers for timely delivery.
  • Coordinate stakeholders for on-time engineering delivery.
  • Manage external subcontractors for performance, cost and schedules.
  • Serve as liaison between internal teams and Airbus departments.
  • Develop certification plans for cabin modification scopes.
  • Support certification processes per aviation authority requirements.
  • Provide on-site technical support to modification teams.
  • Respond to technical queries during and after delivering work instructions.

This position is for a member of the Airbus Cabin Upgrade Engineering team. You will apply advanced aerospace engineering principles and project management to deliver high‑quality cabin retrofit solutions for commercialization and after‑sales.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and design comprehensive cabin retrofit solutions, from global architecture definition to detailed technical drawings.
  • Create robust retrofit engineering drawings and documentation focused on lead time, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Define the complete kit requirements needed to support the physical retrofit design.
  • Develop aircraft modifications in strict alignment with the established project plan.
  • Author, develop, and manage program enablers to ensure timely, high‑quality delivery.
  • Coordinate and manage all project stakeholders for seamless, on‑time engineering delivery.
  • Manage external subcontractors, monitoring performance, cost and delivery schedules.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams and international Airbus departments.
  • Develop tailored aircraft certification plans for specific cabin modification scopes.
  • Support formal aircraft certification processes in compliance with aviation authority requirements.
  • Provide direct technical support to on‑site modification teams, including deployment to customer airlines or MRO facilities.
  • Respond to and resolve technical queries during and after the delivery of work instructions and retrofit kits.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering with at least 9 years of engineering experience, or a Master’s Degree with at least 7 years of engineering experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Proficiency in design and CAD tools such as CATIA V5 or equivalent.
  • Direct project or program engineering experience with a track record of delivering technical milestones on time.
  • Experience in the airline or MRO sector is desired.
  • Aircraft cabin‑related experience and familiarity with FAA/EASA regulations for parts procurement, documentation, and traceability preferred.
  • Python or other programming language experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain an internal network with colleagues globally.
  • Excellent technical synthesis and analytical agility to interpret complex aircraft topics.
  • Operational excellence and proactive risk management in fast‑paced aerospace environments.
  • Familiarity with aircraft modification and MRO operations, illustrated parts catalogs, and ATA technical manuals.
  • Experience in navigating Service Bulletin production and interpretation.
  • Strong presentation and executive presence skills for communicating with management.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace for project collaboration.
  • Level of decision making ranging from tactical to operational.

Travel & Physical Requirements
  • Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international, required to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Physical: 100% onsite presence. Responsibilities include visual, auditory, and manual tasks (e.g., reading drawings, operating tools, carrying up to 30 lb, lifting up to 30 lb, pushing/pulling small office furniture, standing and sitting for long periods).
PPE Requirements
  • Safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves, respirators/masks.
  • Administrative positions may require hearing/eye protection and steel‑toed shoes when visiting the shop floor.
