Job summary

Assurant is seeking a Senior Buyer who negotiates the purchase of complex equipment and strategic services, processes requisitions and purchase orders using system software, and seeks optimization, cost reduction, improved lead-times and product quality.

The Senior Buyer mentors Associate Buyers and Buyers and must have advanced knowledge of purchasing contract terms, RFP processes, bid analysis, and the ability to lead complex customer-focused projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance required.
• 5 years buying and procurement experience required.

• Purchase goods and services using Procurement processes and technology across Assurant enterprise.
• Review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
• Develop, implement and follow procurement policies and organization structure.
• Manage suppliers, internal costs, quality and delivery performance.
• Drive continuous improvement on end-to-end procurement processes.
• Maintain sound relationships with suppliers and the business community.
• Maintain positive relationships with internal customers.
• Demonstrate understanding of market trends and conditions for product changes.

Job description

The Senior Buyer negotiates the purchase of complex equipment and strategic services within authorized limits, processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders using system software, looks for optimization, cost reduction, improved lead-times and product quality. The Senior Buyer coaches and mentors any Associate Buyer and Buyer. The Senior Buyer must have advanced knowledge of purchasing contract terms, RFP process, bid analysis and must be able to lead complex customer-focused special projects.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

• Purchase goods and services by utilizing the Procurement operation processes and technology across Assurant enterprise to meet the needs of the customers.
• Review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
• Develop, implement and follow established Procurement policies, procedures and organization structure.
• Manage suppliers, internal costs, quality and delivery performance.
• Drive continuous improvement on end-to-end aspects of the procurement process.
• Maintain and promote sound relationships with suppliers and the business community.
• Maintain positive relationships and communication with internal customers.
• Demonstrate understanding of market trends and conditions for product changes.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance
• 5 years buying and procurement related experience
• Ability to positively adjust to changing daily demands and work volumes required.
• Effective verbal and written skills with mid to upper-level management required.
• Above-average telephone and interpersonal skills required.
• Above-average judgment, initiative, problem solving, collaboration and teamwork skills required.
• Ability to conduct Request for Proposal (RFP) projects.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of purchasing terms, concepts, processing and procedures.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
