Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Senior Building Engineer for the Boston Seaport, 2nd shift, to maintain and optimize HVAC, electrical, mechanical and life safety systems at a Class A property. You will work with day teams to ensure seamless operations, perform preventive maintenance, and quickly address urgent needs while minimizing tenant disruption.

  • High School Diploma or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of experience; experience supervising is preferred.
  • Universal CFC certification and Boiler License are required.
  • Additional HVAC, electrical, mechanical or related certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to work physically demanding tasks and lift 50 lbs+.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work orders, estimate time and materials, and maintain supplies.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and controls systems.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and safety directives.
  • Develop and implement energy management programs for efficiency.
  • Oversee contractors and communicate with clients and supervisors.

CBRE is seeking a skilled Senior Building Engineer to support operations at a premier 900,000-square-foot Class A office property in Boston's dynamic Seaport district. As a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical building systems, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems. What You’ll Do
  • Assign work orders and estimate the time and materials needed to complete repairs. Maintain an inventory of adequate supplies and tools.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to advanced HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Develop an energy management program. Ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
  • Oversee and inspect the work performed by outside contractors. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisors.
  • Direct the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform repairs and emergency maintenance as needed.
  • Review and sign off on inspections of building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure the operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
  • Apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.
  • Showcase expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.
  • Coach others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.

What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job‑related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Universal CFC certification and Boiler License required
  • Additional certification in one or more of the following: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • The innovative mentality to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
  • Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions having a broad impact on the business.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
  • Highly sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate somewhat complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial‑related calculations.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, includinga candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the positionis or $48.00 per hour and the maximum salary for the position is $58.00 per hour. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidatewill depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
