About The Role

you.com is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and develop the foundational systems that power its LLM-based generative AI assistant. This role involves building secure, scalable, and high-performance backend systems and infrastructure while ensuring seamless operation for millions of users. You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology, contribute to open-source projects, and optimize data pipelines.

This remote position is open to candidates based in the United States, with co-working spaces available in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architect and Build Scalable Systems: Design and develop backend systems that support AI-driven products at web scale.
2. Improve Platform Performance: Ensure scalability, reliability, and security to handle millions of users efficiently.
3. Contribute to Open Source: Contribute to open-source projects and integrate emerging technologies into the platform.
4. Optimize Data Pipelines: Maintain SQL and NoSQL databases, ensuring high-performance query patterns.
5. Eliminate Technical Debt: Refactor and improve existing systems for better scalability and maintainability.
6. Establish Best Practices: Define architectural patterns and team practices that support long-term growth and innovation.
7. Collaborate Across Teams: Work with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure robust deployment and monitoring strategies.

Qualifications

1. Proven experience in building and deploying mission-critical REST/RPC services with a focus on scalability and performance.
2. Expertise in Kubernetes (k8s), deployment pipelines, and debugging system-level issues.
3. Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL database design and maintenance.
4. Contributions to or maintenance of open-source projects is a plus.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
6. Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Salary Band

$150,000 - $270,000 USD (compensation is based on factors assessed during the interview process)
