We are singularly focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend and enhance humanity’s presence in the solar system. We are seeking motivated, creative, and exceptional people to join our world-class team.

Astrolab is looking for a team member who will support both the development of lunar rovers and development of our production processes and facility. You will collaborate with other Astrolab engineers to advance product design in tandem with advancing our means to build and test. You will be ultimately responsible for ensuring the timely build and test of various rover subassemblies, subsystems, and final vehicle integration activities.

What you'll do:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, define, and develop fabrication, assembly, integration, test processes for cable harnessing, batteries, avionics box assemblies, electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and fully integrated rovers
  • Drive design for excellence (DFx) throughout all stages of the product life cycle
  • Champion our Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control program and floor implementation
  • Develop and institutionalize fabrication and assembly standards
  • Champion implementation of technology, processes, and methodologies to accelerate hardware development, build, test, and operation
  • Triage and determine solutions for non-conformances
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Hands-on work. Fabrication, assembly, test, and integration
  • Design and own assembly and fabrication tooling from concept through implementation
  • Develop work instructions and documentation for build and test processes
  • Outline detailed project plans and drive cross functional execution
  • Perform trade studies on capital equipment and tool procurement
Key supporter of these areas:
  • Design of the rover and other lunar hardware – specifically cable harnessing, power system, command and data handling, communications, and perception system avionics
  • Collaborate with the cross functional team to develop the product, processes, facility, and supply chain simultaneously championing concurrent engineering
  • Support on-site and off-site vehicle testing
  • Supplier development
  • Quality systems, data, and records management
  • Development of internal design, construction, and verification specifications

What’s Prepared You:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field; master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus
  • Required 5+ years’ of experience working in pro Preferred experience with spaceflight hardware; strongly preferred experience with NASA projects
  • Demonstrated mastery of project management and associated tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of spacecraft harness construction and harness integration
  • Demonstrated understanding of EEE piece part management
  • Deep understanding of industry and NASA avionics standards
  • Expert in root cause problem solving across Experience with Lean and Six Sigma principals
  • Proficiency with CAD modeling software Understanding of DAQ systems, meaningful experience in set-up and troubleshooting, and prior experience in basic coding (LabVIEW, Python, etc.)
  • Understanding of instrumentation and sensors including power supplies, oscilloscopes, accelerometers, thermocouples, RTDs, etc.
  • Experience with safety regulations and establishing best practices
  • High proficiency with JIRA, MES/MRP software, and Excel
  • Working understanding of ERP/MRP systems
  • Preference to candidates with a working understanding of SMC-S-016 and 017 standard
  • Preference to candidates with experience in NDE techniques for metallics
  • Preference to candidates with experience working to tailored versions of NASA Std-8739.4

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Must be able and willing to periodically travel (i.e. field testing events)
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
