Job description

Job ID: 10580150 | Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Come work at Amazon! Innovation is part of our DNA! Our goal is to be Earths' most customer centric company, and we are just getting started. We need people who want to join an ambitious program that continues to push the state of the art in space-based systems design and wireless systems.

The Role: The Sr Avionics Lab Engineer role will be part of the electrical engineering hardware development team designing Amazon Leo's satellite electronic sub-systems. Successful candidates will have prior work experience in the space/aerospace industry working hands‑on with early electronic designs, prototypes, and test fixtures. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Along the way, we guarantee that you will learn a lot, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
  • Adhere to ESD sensitive hardware safety protocols.
  • Perform fine pitch component rework/modification/repair on complex printed circuit boards (PCBA).
  • Perform first article PCBA inspection and polymeric inspection.
  • Follow detailed work instruction and obtain clarity when difficult to determine engineering intent.
  • Interpret schematics and data sheets.
  • Document work performed and report discrepancies through proper channels.
  • Monitor work ticket Kanban and shift work priority when requested to align with program demand.
  • Support electronic hardware validation testing using engineering work instruction and common electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.).
  • Support failure analysis and root cause identification related requests.
  • Support hardware bring‑up, hardware debug, electrical diagnostics, environmental test set‑up, reliability testing, and space environment simulation testing.
  • Procure and maintain lab consumable stock.
  • Maintain lab toolboxes and specialized lab equipment.
  • Maintain personal workspace and EE Avionics lab to ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 standard.
A day in the life

You’ll work closely with electrical engineers designing and testing early satellite subsystem prototypes, receiving work through an electronic issue tracking system. Your personal desk in the Avionics PCBA Rework Lab is equipped with precision soldering and microscope equipment. Most days involve emergent, unplanned rework requests requiring direct collaboration with engineers to clarify intent and deliver working prototypes quickly. You’ll interpret schematics, perform fine‑pitch PCBA modifications, conduct inspections, and support hardware validation testing—all while maintaining zero‑defect workmanship standards. Work hours align with the engineering team and flex to meet program demand, ensuring Amazon Leo's development timeline stays on track.

About the team

The EE Avionics PCBA Rework team is based in Redmond, Washington, and holds a high quality bar—routinely delivering error‑free workmanship to internal customers. Each team member maintains multiple IPC certifications and receives ongoing technical training to operate and maintain precision automated equipment. The team's technical expertise and lab capabilities are essential to providing electrical engineers with quick‑turn service that unblocks critical test gates and accelerates design releases for Amazon Leo production.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hardware development, test lab, space/aerospace maintenance or hands‑on engineering environment experience
  • 6+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
  • 5+ years hands‑on experience performing PCBA rework/modification/repair down to 0402 component size
  • 5+ years of avionics hardware assembly, validation test, and wiring experience.
  • Lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds twice a week.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in new hardware product development
  • Degree or certificate in related field
  • Certification in IPC-J-STD, IPC-7711/7721, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610
  • A&P license
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Experience sourcing/procuring parts, lab supplies, and electronic components
