Job summary

Amazon Leo seeks a Sr. Hardware Test Engineer to design and execute test campaigns for complex satellite avionics, building automated test stations and writing procedures for production and lab environments.

You will work with cross-functional teams on test system design, verification, and manufacturing integration while ensuring data quality and process excellence. This role is based in Redmond, WA with industry-leading benefits and RSU opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience in computer architecture.
  • Experience planning and executing test campaigns for electronics systems (Design Verification, Qualification, Environmental Test).
  • Experience defining test requirements for complex electronic systems.
  • 7+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience.
  • Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design using ECAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements for test methods used in design verification and qualification test campaigns.
  • Develop test methods and automated test station hardware to be used in engineering labs and production test environments
  • Develop and execute design verification test and qualification plans on complex avionics used for space vehicles.
  • Influence product design for manufacturing and test efficiency (DFM, DFT)
  • Provide training and improve work instructions for liaison engineers to reduce need for design engineering support on repeat issues.
  • Design, maintain and update test station documentation including troubleshooting guides and work instructions.
  • Improve test stability, reduce test time, and guarantee the quality of measurement data.
  • Work with the quality and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure high quality space flight hardware.
  • Execute test rack commissioning for new production test stations or upgrades to existing stations due to new design revisions.
  • Work with Liaison Engineers to troubleshoot and repair test set ups.
  • Develop reporting tools on manufacturing KPIs.

Key job responsibilities

A day in the life

As a Sr. Avionics Test Engineer you will work within the avionics engineering team to develop test solutions for qualification, design verification, and production test of satellite avionics hardware Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). You will be responsible for effectively testing the design and developing a production test solution for local manufacturing and contract manufacturers working with the electrical engineering, liaison engineering, test software, and manufacturing teams to root-cause issues for both PCBAs/LRUs and test systems. You will strive for process excellence, looking for opportunities to improve yield and efficiency. You will be an expert in how your subsystem(s) are tested and provide training support for manufacturing technicians, as well as co-develop and sign off on manufacturing procedures. This position requires a technical understanding of functions of avionics subsystems and strong lab and test skills. You will have the opportunity to dive deep on our PCBA designs and test systems and must be able to effectively work cross-functionally with multiple disciplines.

About The Team

Our team designs, tests, and delivers avionics subsystems such as the flight computer, power management and delivery, RF, and sensing subsystems on the satellite bus. Our team designs and delivers the test systems that enable qualifying and acceptance testing these hardware subsystems for the satellite. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support the long-term success of Amazon Leo. Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience in computer architecture
  • Experience planning and executing test campaigns for electronics systems such as (Design Verification, Qualification, Environmental Test)
  • Experience defining test requirements for complex electronic systems.
  • 7+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design using ECAD tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience in technical program management
  • Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Experience with RF lab equipment including VNA, power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators
  • Experience in Space Vehicle/Satellite Operations, Space Communications or related industry
  • Experience in hardware test framework software development.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
