Job description

Savantage Solutions is seeking a highly analytical Senior Auditor to support a government agency’s audit readiness, financial management, and internal control initiatives. As a Senior Auditor, you will provide subject matter expertise in audit readiness, financial management, internal controls, and audit remediation, offering strategic guidance and hands‑on leadership to address audit findings, strengthen internal controls, improve financial processes, and sustain audit readiness.

This is not a traditional, heads‑down technical auditing role. While the position requires extensive financial management and auditing expertise, success will depend on strong, hands‑on leadership and the ability to coordinate complex initiatives, drive consensus, and align diverse stakeholders across the agency. You will play a key role in advancing audit readiness, strengthening internal controls, resolving financial management challenges, and supporting the agency’s overall financial management objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Audit Leadership, Response & Sustainment
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership: Provide program leadership by guiding stakeholder groups, prioritizing high‑impact initiatives, and navigating complex organizational dynamics to ensure teams remain aligned, focused, and on schedule.
  • Audit and Financial Management Expertise: Serve as a Senior Auditor and subject matter expert, providing specialized knowledge of end‑to‑end business processes, including accounts payable, funds balance with Treasury, and other key financial management functions, to support audit response and remediation efforts.
  • Internal Control Testing & Population Validation: Develop and execute internal control testing plans and procedures to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls. Validate the completeness and accuracy of control populations and samples used in testing.
  • Audit Remediation & Corrective Action Plan (CAP) Management: Prepare Notices of Findings and Recommendations (NFRs) resulting from internal control assessments and validation testing. Collaborate with process owners to develop, implement, and monitor effective Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
  • Remediation Sustainment & Validation: Perform validation testing of completed CAPs developed to address Independent Public Auditor (IPA) findings and internal control deficiencies, ensuring corrective actions are effective and sustainable over time.
Stakeholder Coordination & Compliance Support
  • Stakeholder Alignment & Coordination: Monitor audit findings and collaborate with process owners and stakeholders across multiple departments to facilitate timely responses, coordinate remediation activities, and ensure findings are effectively resolved.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Evaluate potential risks across functional areas, identify control weaknesses, and recommend practical improvements and risk mitigation strategies to strengthen the agency's internal control environment.
  • Service Provider Agreements: Develop and review audit‑related Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with service providers, ensuring Complementary User Entity Controls (CUECs) and associated roles and responsibilities are clearly defined.
  • Process Documentation & Governance: Develop, update, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), business process narratives, and process flow documentation to support operational consistency, internal control compliance, and audit readiness across assigned business functions.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
  • Clearance: Active Secret clearance
  • DoW Financial Experience: 7+ years of Federal experience in Auditing, Financial Management, Risk Management, or a related field, specifically within the Department of War (DoW) environment. Must possess a strong understanding of DoW accounting procedures, fiscal law, and familiarity with the DoW Financial Management Regulation (FMR).
  • Technical Mastery: Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analytics, modeling, and dashboard creation.
  • Skills: Strong hyper‑analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Education and Certifications:
  • Minimum Bachelors, business discipline preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • CIA, CISA, CFE, CGAP, CDFM, or CGFM Certification
Compensation:

$132,000 - $153,500 annually (based on the National Capital Region)
