DESCRIPTION
The Amazon Music Merch team is looking for a Sr. Art Director to lead the direction and execution for our most high-profile merchandise collections. This is a unique opportunity to shape the visual identity of artist-led apparel and drive standout fan experiences through merchandise.
As Sr. Art Director, you'll be overseeing the design and apparel development from concept through production-reviewing apparel and graphic design, developing brand guides and mood-boards, and aligning closely with artists to bring their vision to life. You'll direct design execution across multiple launches, ensuring every detail-from tech packs to art separations-meets both creative standards and production needs. This role requires deep familiarity with apparel design and screen print production. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams, manage a network of designers, coordinate sampling, and continuously refine processes to scale with the business. We're looking for someone with strong visual instincts, exceptional project management skills, and experience in fast-paced, high-volume environments. You should be confident translating creative feedback into production-ready designs while maintaining a strong point of view and high creative bar.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the full creative lifecycle of new product collections, partnering closely with design, production, and marketing teams to ensure timely and high-quality execution
- Translate artist input and cross-functional feedback into clear, actionable direction for designers, ensuring creative output aligns with both vision and production needs
- Collaborate with design, merchandising, and production to maintain alignment throughout each phase of development, from concept to final delivery
- Define and implement creative specifications through SOPs, visual guidelines, and streamlined workflows that guide cross-functional teams through sampling and mass production
- Interpret complex requests and evolving cultural or design trends into compelling creative strategies that inform new product offerings and collection direction
- Champion high design standards and consistency across every collection and asset
A day in the life
You'll lead the creative development of merchandise collections for top artists, collaborating across internal design teams, external vendors, and artist stakeholders. You'll guide concepting, provide art direction, and translate feedback into compelling visual output. You'll own the creative pipeline-from building pitch decks and brand guides to overseeing art file delivery and ensuring alignment with production specs. You'll also help build scalable systems and workflows that support creative consistency and operational efficiency across a fast-moving merch business.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of driving compelling creative strategy and execution at an agency or in-house creative team experience
- Bachelor's degree
- - Strong time management and organizational skills
- - Expert understanding of apparel production, printing techniques, and creative-to-production workflows
- - Proven ability to balance creative vision with operational needs
- - Bar-raising portfolio showing past work across product, fashion, or music merchandising
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Keynote
- Experience leading creative development of innovative creative from concept to delivery
- Experience presenting creative concepts effectively to senior executives
- Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines
- - Experience directing screen print and apparel design projects from concept to delivery

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
