Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. seeks a Senior Responsible AI researcher to advance robust, responsible AI (RAI) strategies across products and platforms.

You will tackle controllability, privacy, security, safety, fairness, explainability, and governance while shaping research agendas and metrics. You will collaborate with internal teams and external researchers, publish findings, mentor junior staff, and help scale RAI programs across the organization in a fast-paced, high-impact

  • PhD or Master’s with 6+ years of applied research in AI/ML
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and ML.

We are Amazon's central Responsible AI team. Our mission is to advance the science and practice of Responsible AI (RAI) to enable Amazon's tens of thousands of builders to build and deploy AI solutions to the high standards that our customers and society expect.

Responsibilities
  • Understand in depth the technical and scientific issues related to RAI, including controllability, security, privacy, safety, veracity, robustness, fairness, explainability, transparency, and governance
  • Help define the strategies, priorities, and metrics for RAI
  • Solve open problems in RAI to unblock traditional, generative and/or agentic AI use cases and solutions, publishing as appropriate
  • Help develop our team
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the academic community, on issues related to RAI
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience prioritizing and delivering projects on time in a fast‑moving environment
  • Passion for responsibly building and operating complex AI/ML systems, with consideration for controllability, privacy, security, safety, veracity, robustness, fairness, explainability, transparency, and governance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to synthesize large amounts of complex data and communicate complex concepts effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Publication record on issues in responsible AI or related to responsible AI

The base salary range for this position is 167,100.00 – 226,100.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
