Job Details

We’re looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to design and support HVAC Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial and institutional facilities. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the full engineering process—from interpreting sequences of operation and designing system architecture, to collaborating with project teams to ensure successful delivery and client satisfaction.

You’ll use your technical expertise in HVAC DDC controls, system integration, and energy-efficient design to create reliable, high-performing automation systems that meet customer goals and industry standards.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, configure, and document Building Automation Systems (BAS) using Reliable Controls or equivalent platforms.
  • Interpret control sequences for AHUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and other HVAC systems.
  • Develop control drawings, network layouts, and system schematics using tools like Microsoft Visio.
  • Specify and select controllers, sensors, and field devices to meet design and performance requirements.
  • Generate submittals, point lists, and as-built documentation to support installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, programmers, and field technicians to ensure seamless execution from design through turnover.
  • Integrate third-party systems using BACnet, Modbus, or other open communication protocols.
  • Provide technical support during submittal reviews, site coordination, and commissioning.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal design standards and templates.
  • Participate in value engineering and project optimization efforts to enhance performance and profitability.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, and clients to resolve technical challenges and maintain project alignment.
What You Bring
  • 5–10+ years of experience in Building Automation or HVAC controls design, programming, or engineering.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, HVAC systems, and energy management strategies.
  • Proficiency in BACnet/IP, Modbus, and related communication protocols.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Visio, Excel, and Office 365 for system documentation and coordination.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, low-voltage systems, and mechanical design fundamentals.
