Job summary

Corning is seeking an experienced Application Database Developer/Oracle Database Administrator in Charlotte, NC. The role focuses on production support for global Oracle databases, ensuring platform stability and high performance while partnering with application teams to meet business needs and service level objectives.

You will lead with strong database expertise, participate in change governance, and mentor offshore/onshore teams to deliver reliable database infrastructure.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years in IT as Oracle Database Administrator.
• Experience as Database Administrator and support staff across various DB technologies.
• Knowledge of Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, OEM, and Linux scripting.

Responsibilities

• Provide production support for database environments with 24x7 staff.
• Handle database installation, configuration, management, patching and upgrades; manage backups/recovery.
• Participate in Change Advisory Board; provide governance on DB changes and root-cause analysis.
• Provide off-hours support for critical production issues when required.
• Automate infrastructure components using PowerShell, Chef, Puppet, Ruby, Terraform, OEM or similar.
• Perform database refreshes per customer needs and monitor/optimize SQL performance.
• Drive improvement across the database portfolio and stay current with multi-cloud trends.

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Role Purpose:

As an Application Database Developer, you will leverage technical acumen to provide superior engineering and production support for Global Oracle Database environments. In addition, you will drive and participate in efforts to ensure platform stability to maximize performance of database environments, partner with application owners/teams to understand application and business needs and SLO (Service Level Objectives).

Roles and Responsibilities:

• The primary focus will be on production support for database environments working with 24X7 support staff.
• Database administration (Installation, configuration, and management, patching and upgrade of the database environments), and Database Backup & Recovery.
• Participate in Change Advisory Board and provide guidance governance on Database changes. Perform problem resolution for complex issues including root cause analysis and outline resolution options.
• Provide off-hours support, when required, for critical production issues.
• Automate Infrastructure components leveraging understanding of scripting, coding and automation using one or more of the following: PowerShell, Microsoft DSC, Chef, Puppet, Ruby, Terraform, OEM or others.
• Perform Database refresh as per customer needs and Database/SQL Monitoring and Performance Tuning.
• Use database expertise and leadership experience to identify and drive improvement efforts related to our database portfolio
• Maintain technical knowledge of current and emerging Multi-Cloud developments, industry trends, assess opportunities, and collaborate with stakeholders to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
• Educate and guide the third-party support team (on-shore and off-shore) and application support teams for steady-state support of database infrastructure related technologies.
• Promote and demonstrate Corning's principles of Performance, Leadership, Innovation, Independence, the Individual, Quality, and Integrity.

Experiences/Education - Required

• BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years working in IT as Oracle Database Administrator.
• Experience playing pivotal roles as Database Administrator and support staff across various database technologies.
• Knowledgeable in database technologies such as: Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Linux scripting etc.
• Experience Monitoring and Performance Tuning Database/SQL.
• Experience with Linux and Windows OS.
• Experience working in Manufacturing Industry (or similar) to understand the data security requirements such as ITAR/PCI/PHI/HIPPA/NIST/SOX etc.
• Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Demonstrated track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing skills.
• Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
• Achievement orientation, creative thinking, and enthusiasm

• Self-motivated, ability to learn new technology and concepts quickly

The range for this position is$108,592.00-$149,314.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
