Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for its Leo initiative to design and optimize phased array antenna systems. You will lead calibration systems, perform simulations, and validate performance with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong programming, DSP, and RF engineering fundamentals, with hands-on lab work and collaboration across antenna, modem, RF, and digital teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading design, automation, deployment of large-scale infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and CI/CD pipelines.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with relevant coursework in digital comms, DSP, RF/microwave, antennas.

Responsibilities

  • Design phased array calibration systems, signals, processing and algorithms.
  • Perform performance analysis and trade-off studies for phased arrays.
  • Model, simulate and analyze baseband/RF/antenna systems end-to-end.
  • Lab measurements and validation of antennas and phased array subsystems.

Job description

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for key aspects of phased array antenna system design, simulation, measurement, calibration and optimization. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver advanced high-performance phased array antenna systems. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing phased array calibration systems, signals, processing and algorithms
  • Performance analysis and design trade-off studies of phased arrays
  • End-to-end modeling, simulation and analysis of baseband/RF/antenna systems
  • Lab measurement and validation of performance of antennas, and phased array systems and subsystems
  • Working with antenna, modem, RF and Digital teams to simulate, measure and fine-tune radio designs
Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with relevant coursework in digital communication theory, digital signal processing, RF/Microwave Engineering, Antennas and Electromagnetic theory
  • 7+ years of work experience in Aerospace/Semiconductor/Consumer Electronics industry
  • Experience in DSP techniques, digital modulation, radio architecture, line-up analysis, RF system design
  • Experience with lab test equipment like VSAs, VSGs, VNAs and Oscilloscopes
  • Coding and scripting skills with demonstrated experience in Matlab/Python/C++
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SystemVue, ADS or LabView
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale
  • MS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of work experience or PhD with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience working with phased arrays, calibration and antenna measurement
  • Experience with one of the mainstream antenna simulation tools (CST/HFSS)
  • Good understanding of modern wireless technologies (OFDM/MIMO) and medium access procedures
  • Familiarity with basics of probability and estimation theory

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
