Job summary

The Steely Group in Boston, MA is seeking a Commercial Insights & Analytics / Operations Analyst to evaluate product performance, generate data-driven insights, and support Commercial Operations. This on-site role requires four days per week in Boston and collaboration with stakeholders to align data solutions with business goals.

You will lead reporting, forecasting, competitive intelligence, and model development using SQL, Python, and Power BI, translating complex data into actionable

Job description

We are seeking a Commercial Insights & Analytics / Operations Analyst who will be responsible for helping to evaluate product performance, data-driven actionable insight generation, and support Commercial Operations. This individual will possess a combination of strategic thinking and analytical expertise to help the company achieve its’ commercial goals. Key areas of focus include data analytics and reporting, claims analysis, forecasting, and competitive intelligence. This role will collaborate with multiple stakeholders within the company to ensure a thorough understanding of business insight needs, data landscape, and how to leverage data to answer business questions efficiently and agilely.

This position is based in Boston, Massachusetts and requires a presence on-site four days per week, and open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and report product performance
• Become a subject matter expert in the company products
• Identify and track key drivers of product performance, and proactively uncover risks and opportunities for the product
• Claims and other data analysis
• Help clean and integrate claims and other data sets
• Routinely generate data-driven insights
• Forecasting
• Help develop product / market models and scenario planning
• Triangulate and pressure-test assumptions with various data sources (primary research, competitive intelligence, analogs, etc.)
• Help in competitive analysis to assess market dynamics, product positioning and to monitor emerging threats
• Routinely report significant events impacting the company products
• Build, enhance, and maintain reports / dashboards within power BI
• Be able to synthesize complex data in an easy digestible format
• Standardize reporting templates for executive, field, and cross-functional use

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in data science preferred
• 5+ years of experience in commercial analytics, data science, or related functions (insights, equity research, or commercial operations) required
• Strong proficiency in analytical tools, models, software, and data visualization platforms used to work with large and complex datasets (e.g., SQL, Python, Power BI)
• Able to execute complex advanced analytics projects, combining disparate data sources
• Solution oriented mindset with ability to interpret ambiguous requests and problem solve independently
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills with an ability to troubleshoot and solve complex business operations challenges
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
