Digital Prospectors is seeking a Sr. Aerospace Electronic Packaging Engineer to support design, development, fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of spaceflight electronics and ground support equipment.

The role requires strong mechanical and packaging expertise, CAD modeling, and collaboration across engineering teams. The ideal candidate will coordinate with product and project leads, drive 3D CAD work, and ensure designs meet manufacturability and aerospace standards.

Sr.Aerospace Electronic Packaging Engineer

Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of spaceflight electronics, microelectronics, photonic hardware, and ground support equipment. This role combines advanced mechanical design expertise with strong technical execution, requiring broad knowledge of mechanical systems, electronic packaging, CAD modeling, and hardware manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with product delivery leads, technical leads, proposal managers, and project management.
• Participate in and lead design teams developing spaceflight and ground support electronic hardware, subsystems, and components.
• Generate detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, layouts, sketches, and design studies using NX or comparable CAD tools.
• Create and revise component, subsystem, and system designs to improve manufacturability, structural integrity, performance, and compliance with engineering standards.
• Interface with packaging and manufacturing engineers, designers, analysts, machine shop personnel, Quality Assurance, and project staff.
• Plan and produce work instructions for the fabrication and assembly of electronic packaging, cable harnesses, and mechanical assemblies.
• Prepare for and participate in technical design reviews, present design content, and address resulting action items.
• Solve complex mechanical and packaging design problems, perform trade studies, and develop design requirements supporting hardware qualification and fabrication workflows.
• Coordinate design criteria, including manufacturability, material availability, and contractual specifications, with engineering, materials, and planning groups.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline, with experience commensurate with the role.
• Advanced understanding and application of mechanical engineering principles, including structures, configuration, mechanisms, structural analysis, integration, and test.
• Strong proficiency with CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks; experience with recent NX versions is preferred.
• Knowledge and practical application of ASME Y14.xx and Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards.
• Broad experience in mechanical and electronic packaging design, including printed wiring board design, mechanical chassis, manufacturing processes, and cable harness assembly.
• Ability to independently execute mechanical design activities, coordinate fabrication and assembly, and support hardware qualification.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
• Experience with spacecraft flight electronic hardware development and testing is desired.
• Working knowledge of aerospace drawing release processes and inspection documentation is desired.
• Knowledge of soldering operations, cable assembly, SMT electronics manufacturing, and electromechanical analyses, including thermal, structural, and venting analyses, is desired.
• Experience with printed wiring board design tools such as Mentor or Altium is desired.
• Experience interfacing with vendors and fabrication services for mechanical, electronic, and printed wiring board manufacturing is desired.
• Familiarity with applicable aerospace and government standards, policies, and procedures is desired.
