Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Sr Advanced Software Engineer to lead design, development, verification, and release of avionics software. You will collaborate across teams, mentor junior engineers, and work on core flight deck systems in a hybrid layout.

Initial 90 days require onsite work, with ongoing flexibility after onboarding. The role emphasizes technical depth, systems integration, and regulatory compliance to deliver customer‑driven software solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • 8 years of software development experience, including product development and systems/software integration in embedded, real-time, or regulated software environments.
  • 8 years of hands‑on development experience using C++ in embedded and/or real‑time systems (e.g., DEOS, RTOS, or equivalent environments).
  • Experience designing and implementing software architectures, object‑oriented designs, algorithms, data structures, and software lifecycle processes including design, development, verification, and release.
  • 8 years of experience in regulated or safety‑critical industries such as aerospace, avionics, defense, industrial automation, medical devices, or similar environments.
  • Experience developing, integrating, testing, or maintaining real‑time, embedded, control, or mission‑critical systems.
  • Experience supporting certification, compliance reviews, quality audits, or requirements‑based verification activities.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, code reviews, onboarding support, or mentoring to early‑career engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute engineering project tasks to meet technical, quality, schedule, and customer requirements.
  • Perform feature implementation, sub-task identification, and technical coordination across software development activities.
  • Develop, analyze, and capture software and system requirements for assigned features and subsystems.
  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain software for Avionics Displays systems, algorithms, and application/framework-level functionality.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, integration, and verification of software and systems to ensure compliance with product and project requirements.
  • Support generating software builds, integration, and release activities to enable efficient software delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, cross-functional teams, quality, certification, program management, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support the completion of products to achieve certification and customer acceptance.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to facilitate product development and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Communicate project status, technical progress, risks, and process updates to leadership and customers.
  • Identify non-compliance issues and communicate audit findings, corrective actions, and technical impacts to relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify, propose, and implement technical and process improvements to enhance engineering efficiency, quality, and project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering processes, methods, and guidelines within Integrated Flight Deck Systems COE.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to early-career engineers.
  • Provide directions to other engineers and support personnel to ensure alignment with project and product compliance objectives.

Job Description

As a Sr Advanced Software Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be responsible for a variety of professional-level engineering responsibilities and requires the application of advanced knowledge of software engineering disciplines, processes, and tools to execute project subtasks and ensure compliance with technical, quality, and customer requirements. You will contribute to the design, development, integration, verification, and release of software features for Avionics Displays systems, algorithms, and software frameworks. This position plays an important role in delivering products that meet customer specifications, certification requirements, and organizational quality standards. The role also involves regular interaction with internal stakeholders and external customers to support project execution and product compliance.

This Sr Advanced Software Engineer is recognized as an emerging authority within Integrated Flight Deck Systems COE and is expected to help define and improve engineering processes, recommend enhancements to technical methods, and mentor early-career engineers. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical depth, independent problem-solving ability, and the capability to lead feature decomposition, coordinate development activities, and support programs execution. You will directly impact product delivery by executing engineering subtasks, identifying technical improvements, driving feature implementation, and supporting the successful completion of customer-driven software solutions.

You will report directly to our Sr Software Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a hybrid work schedule. Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.

Key Responsibilities
