Job description

As a Software Engineer II, you will design, implement, and test software components that support critical aerospace systems. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure high‑quality, reliability, and maintainable software. This role requires solid technical fundamentals, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to work both independently and within structured development and verification processes.

You will report directly to our Software Engineering Manager and work from our Clearwater, FL location, with a hybrid work option available after an initial 90-day period. External hires will begin with 90 days on site before transitioning to a 3/2 hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust software architectures and applications that support automated test stations, ensuring reliability, modularity, and alignment with system‑level requirements.
• Partner with cross‑functional engineering teams to translate system requirements into well‑defined software specifications and contribute to ongoing improvements in performance, usability, and integration.
• Execute assigned project tasks and work packages to meet technical, schedule, and customer requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with established development standards.
• Coordinate technical exchanges with team members and internal customers, communicating requirement clarifications, interface details, and design considerations to maintain shared understanding across the engineering team.
• Develop clear and comprehensive software documentation, including user guides, technical specifications, design records, and release notes, supporting maintainability and compliance.
• Write clean, maintainable code in multiple programming languages, with proficiency in object‑oriented languages such as C++, and adherence to safe coding practices and standards.
• Foster a culture of engineering rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement, contributing to team best practices, peer review processes, and high‑quality deliverables across the software organization.

Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
• 2+ years of experience in software development, preferably in embedded or aerospace-related software with of hands‑on software development experience, contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of software components.
• Strong understanding of software development and verification workflows, including requirements traceability, structured peer reviews, test coverage analysis, formal problem reporting, and use of requirements management tools.
• Proficiency in Visual Studio .NET development, with experience using C++ or C#, and familiarity with Visual Studio workload configurations, diagnostics tools, extensions, and code‑profiling capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering, integration, and test teams.
• Experience with source‑control and software development toolchains such as SVN, Git, DOORS, ClearQuest, or CI pipelines

WE VALUE:

• Hands‑on experience with test automation and operation of automated test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMM), and digital/analog I/O instrumentation.
• Experience with industry‑standard avionics and communication interfaces, such as ARINC 429, IEEE‑1394, MIL‑STD‑1553, UART, RS‑422, and fiber‑optic‑based systems
• Familiarity with embedded systems or hardware‑software integration
• Strong working knowledge of Python, including developing automated scripts, tools, or test frameworks.
• Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software interactions and drive issues to resolution.
• Self‑motivated individuals who thrive under minimal supervision, consistently taking initiative, owning outcomes, and delivering results in fast‑paced development and test environments
• Active U.S. Government security clearance (Secret or higher) is preferred; ability to obtain and maintain a clearance is required based on program needs.
