Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Solar PV Design Engineer to lead the technical design of medium to large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems across the municipal, K-12 education, and commercial & industrial sectors. The engineer will produce high-quality design documentation and system layouts that define the Basis of Design (BoD) for procurement and construction. This role is not the Engineer of Record but is critical to the technical definition and successful delivery of each project.
The ideal candidate will also have experience in integrating Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE), and other technologies for future microgrid systems to enhance resilience and grid independence.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & Engineering
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for solar projects.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Stay updated on solar technologies, software, and regulatory changes.
- Support sales with technical expertise.
- Design PV systems, including layout, sizing, and BOS equipment selection.
- Utilize software like Helioscope, PVsyst, and AutoCAD.
- Create electrical diagrams, site layouts, and specifications.
- Perform glare/shading analyses and define utility interconnection points.
- Coordinate with structural, civil, and electrical engineers.
Microgrid & DER Integration
- Develop strategies for PV and DER asset integration.
- Contribute to control logic and resiliency planning.
- Support system modeling for energy balancing and backup power.
Bid & Documentation Development
- Define the Basis of Design for bids.
- Prepare technical bid documents and review submittals.
Field & Vendor Coordination
- Participate in site visits and validate design assumptions.
- Communicate with vendors and stakeholders.
Cost Estimation
- Produce detailed cost estimates for PV and DER systems.

- U.S. Citizenship.
- 7+ years designing solar PV systems.
- Proficiency with Helioscope, PVsyst, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
- Understanding of NEC, NFPA 70, and interconnection standards.
- Experience with vendor coordination and site assessments.
- Ability to develop cost estimates and performance models.
Valued Skills:
- Experience with DERs, microgrids, and related software.
- Knowledge of microgrid configurations and resiliency strategies.
- Credentials like NABCEP PV Design Specialist.
- Experience with municipal or public-sector energy projects.
- Understanding of incentives and certificates.
- Full project lifecycle experience.
- Strong communication skills.
