Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of rate indications and evaluate price levels.
  • Lead rate testing efforts as the SME to validate product refresh implementations.
  • Analyze loss experience, premium trends, claim frequency and severity trends.
  • Collaborate with the product team to conduct rate reviews and propose changes to rate plans.
  • Support state rate filings and regulatory responses.
  • Assess product and segment profitability.
  • Peer review and assist with reserving analyses.
  • Gather data, analyze information, and make recommendations to solve business problems.

Job description

The Philadelphia Contributionship is the oldest successful property and casualty insurance company in the United States, having been founded by Ben Franklin in 1752. We write homeowners insurance in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. We have an A- (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best and have been consistently recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in the Philadelphia area. Our headquarters are located in the Olde City section of Philadelphia, just steps from Independence Hall.

We’re seeking self-motivated individuals with sharp analytical and math skills, clear communication, intellectual curiosity, and creative problem-solving ability, ideally with at least one passed actuarial exam. This role reports to the Chief Actuary will primarily focus on pricing/ratemaking but also support loss reserving and predictive analytics. It’s a chance to make a meaningful impact on profitability and growth while gaining broad exposure across the business.

This role follows a hybrid schedule, typically working 2-3 days per week in the Philadelphia office and remotely on other days.

Hiring Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field (required).
  • 3-5 actuarial exams preferred; 1-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL, R, or Python is a plus.
  • Personable, self-motivated, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive projects.
  • Proven ability to proactively identify issues, build alignment, and recommend solutions.
  • Local candidates preferred.

We offer an actuarial student program with exam support. Achieving the ACAS or FCAS designation is not required for this position.
